FORMER Hearts captain Marius Zaliukas joined Rangers for training this morning as Ally McCoist took an opportunity to look at the free agent. The Lithuanian international has been without a club since he left Tynecastle at the end of last season after seven years in Edinburgh. Now 29, the defender played 220 times for the Jambos following his move from FBK Kaunas in 2006 and scored 14 goals. Manager McCoist has spoken frequently in recent times about his desire to recruit another centre-back and a striker to add to his eight summer signings so far. Discussions have been taking place of a number of weeks about the possibility of Bosnian stopper Boris Pandza moving to Ibrox. No agreement has been struck there as yet though and Zaliukas is the player currently being assessed by the Ibrox boss.
We could do with another 25 players truth be told. As Wattie always said, you can never have too many centre-backs.
I reckon he spends time not threatening pregnant girlfiriends and going out for a quiet drink without getting into fights.
He's taken the time to become fluent in French, apparently. http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/football/mohsni-says-mccoists-french-talk-has-helped-him-settle.22066528
That sounds nice. It's only a guess but he also probably enjoys that time free from the concerns of being sent death threats, bullets and bombs from opposition fans <whitabootery>
ALLY McCOIST has offered Marius Zaliukas a deal at Rangers, with the defender now back in Lithuania considering the proposal. The former Hearts captain and FBK Kaunas player trained with the Light Blues last week having arrived at Murray Park initially on September 5. McCoist was impressed with what he saw from the stopper, who spent seven years at Tynecastle before leaving when his contract there expired at the end of last term. Having had discussions with him, chief executive Craig Mather has also sat down with the 29-year-old to talk terms. Gers now await Zaliukas’ response, with an offer to Bosnian centre-half Boris Pandza still on the table too. The Light Blues have so far brought in nine new faces over the summer, with goalkeeper Steve Simonsen their latest addition last week. Jon Daly, Stevie Smith, Arnold Peralta, Richard Foster, Bilel Mohsni, Cammy Bell, Nicky Clark and Nicky Law have also come in. Having not had a budget to sign midfielder Sam Kelly recently, McCoist admitted last week it’s likely he’ll only be able to bring in one defender rather than both he is keen on. Now he’s waiting to hear whether Zaliukas and Pandza are likely to accept what has been put before them. McCoist said: “Marius trained very well with us and I know Craig had a chat with the board and myself then put an offer to him. “He has now gone back home to contemplate it and to have a think so hopefully we will hear from him soon. “We as staff feel we should strengthen in the centre of defence although with that said, when you’re getting hat-tricks from one of your centre-halves it’s always encouraging and pleasing. “I just feel though we need to think about the longer term and it’s an area we definitely need to bring someone in.”
I'm hearing Christian Dailly is back training at Murray park with a view of signing a deal until the end of the season.

While I think he could do a good job for us, how many defenders do we need? We already have Anestis Argyriou, EmÃlson Cribari, Sébastien Faure, Richard Foster, Luca Gasparotto, Chris Hegarty, Bilel Mohsni, Steven Smith, Ross Perry and Lee Wallace!
