Nice, LeClerc doing better than Grosjean!!!!! I do hope LeClerc gets to drive a Ferrari next year but then again he will be the No2 driver so he will be compromised sometimes.
I think Brazil 2012 cost Hulk a chance at a top team, shame, but maybe Renault can give him a car with a chance by 2020, they do it about once a decade, so they're due.
He's had the car for podiums in the past, as teammates have proven and also thrown away podiums himself with mistakes. I have never thought he is as great as many make him out to be. Rarely has he massively overshadowed a decent teammate to demonstrate he deserves a top drive. He has shown he is the same level as Perez or Sainz when in the same team, but has always had more experience than them, so is he really all that?
I completely agree with ASC's post, above. 1/ About 50% of the drivers who ever get on an F1 grid begin with (apparently) huge potential. 2/ Very few of them get even close to fulfilling it. 3/ Far fewer still – perhaps just one or two per decade – have ever stirred me to think they will eventually become a World Champion.* According to some (and I admit I'm struggling to include myself) Hulkenberg reached stage 1. At no point have I ever thought he'd reach stage 2. - - -o0o- - -*Over the past 20 odd years, only three drivers have had me thinking it right from the outset: Alonso; Hamilton especially (even before he was on the grid); Verstappen. Not Vettel; I didn't recognise his real potential until he was already achieving it. As for my view of Hulkenberg: a nice chap who never threatened stage 2 on the radar; but a good solid driver nonetheless, who justified a long-term stay in F1.
