Tremendous!! We need a charismatic figure like Lord Zlatan in the team. We have lacked that so badly since Fergie left. The kids would be able to learn from the master himself, especially Rashford.
I think somebody must have given him the thumbs up before he released that Qualified for his loyalty bonus today so he can have medical and sign all in one hit tomorrow
I think he'll be a great signing but only for one season, two max. Let's not get carried away, he won't be long term but will definitely give us a right much needed kick up the arse. Him at No.9 with Tony M and Rashford either side and a decent 10 behind (Mkhitaryan?) sounds superb. Say we do sign Mkhitaryan, do we really need Pogba? Surely we can make a midfield from Herrera, Schneiderlin, Blind, Schweinsteiger and Carrick? Although I suppose if he's there to be signed we should snap him up. I really don't rate him as highly as some though.
No, me either really. If we get this Micky bloke we should be good to go. Herrera and Schneiderlin should be given a run as a CM partnership. If we do go for a Frenchman then I'd rather Kante; a solid, hard, DM is one thing we are missing.
I don't buy into the "he's only a one or two season signing" argument tbh. He doesn't rely on pace and has never had a massive work rate, so there's not much to lose in the next few years. It all depends on how serious he is - look at Pirlo, he played on for years after Milan thought his legs had gone. Obviously he won't go on for ever, but I think he will be like Sheringham was for us - able to keep going until we have someone who is definitely ready to replace him and be an improvement. Like I said in the other thread, I don't think we really need Pogba in the same way we really needed a new CB and CF. But he is an improvement on the five you've mentioned, Carrick and Schweinsteiger might not be fit or mobile enough to play Mourinho's desired system, and Blind may still be needed to fill in in defence at some points, particularly if Bailly takes a while settling in. So I would rather have Pogba than not have him, particularly if we aspire to compete for more than one trophy a year. Ultimately my view is that Pogba is better than what we have, and would improve the side, and so we should go for him. We have the money, we have the profits, we have the ability to pay his wages, so if the manager wants him why would we not go for him?
I just think he'll end up elbowing out one of two players I think should be given a fair crack next season in Herrera or Schneiderlin. That, to me, is a waste. They didn't let us down last season, van Gaal ****ing about did. As for Zlatan, do you honestly think in two seasons time when he's about to enter a season and turn 37 he'll still be looked at as the go to centre forward? I don't.
Yeah, I agree on Mata. Not 100% on Herrera, if we sign Pogba or someone maybe but otherwise he should stay. It's Carrick and Schweinstiger will be phased out due to age, doesn't make sense to get rid of Herrera.
My 6 year old loves 'junior' Mata. Wants an 8 and Mata on the back of his shirt. Haven't got the heart to tell him he's likely to leave.
I think Mourinho will consider Herrera to be too lightweight. Also, where the **** is he going to play Rooney? My preference would be in the reserves.
