Zola set for QPR job? By Football Italia staff Gianfranco Zola is reportedly lined up for the QPR job as a replacement for Harry Redknapp. The English manager is hanging in the balance after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United this week extended his winless streak to five games. According to the Mail on Sunday, Zola is the hot favourite to take over at Queenâs Park Rangers. Zola was recently fired by Watford, the satellite club of Udinese owners the Pozzo family. I like Zola but truth is, he's only lasted at 5 minutes at every club he's been to .................. one would think there must be something in that.
A little unfair, he turned WHU back into a flair team and gave a lot of youngsters a chance, plus kept them in the Prem, leaving after Sullivan and Gold put the entire squad except Parker up for sale. At Watford he got them to third place and the play off final last season. An honourable man, he resigned with Watford in 13th this season. Give him 2 seasons to get us up, he'd at least try to build something attractive and is not afraid of youth. He was also such a brilliant player that he will command respect from all the squad. However, the rumour is bull****, I'm sure H is staying at least until the end of the season. I think TF is getting tired of throwing his money away at the behest of 'football people'.
That's because of the strange ownership of the club - its owners also have Udinese and a Spanish team, they use Watford to get experience for their players.
Agreed Stan...that was not down to Zola.... Zola...has a bit of flair about him.....I am interested But I am holding out for a hero I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light He's gotta be sure and it's gotta be soon And he's gotta be larger than life, larger than life MALKIE MACKAY!!
I think we need Arry out now, and someone in now who could get us up this season - already a tall order but we need to be back in the PL pronto, or I don't think we will be back for a decade or more. The change needs making very, very soon to give the new man a small chance. But I see little in Zola's background that suggests he can do this. Long term decisions aren't the priority now - next season's Manager can be found in May.
Well, seems only a minority of us like Zola. In current circumstances I'd be happy for any candidate we could all get behind to take over the reins, whether it be now, the summer, or when Harold hits his 85th birthday. I'm afraid thats not Malky MacKay for me Beth, unless we aim to be a Championship team for some time, he's the template for a championship level manager.
Really? why?...dont mean to be confrontational. i just cant see why we would. I'll happily listen to anyones opinions as long as they arent the "anti harry" stuff we've been reading. My brother has prime seats at Watford and he wasnt sad to see him go? Over to you guys.
Well, he's a younger man with modern ideas, he would have us playing more attractively and is known for giving youth a chance. Everything that Redknapp isn't. Oops!
Fair enough stroller but he hasnt exactly got a stable work history. Do we think that he would stay long term? his players were all loans from Italy when the Watford owners ahd other intrests. He wouldnt have those same players available and would have to work with what we have. not sure he could do much better? If he commited to a 5 year deal, then maybe.....? EDIT...PS, im not pro harry, just dont see the long term gains?
I think the Italian loan players were down to the owners rather than Zola. I'd like to see whoever takes over give our young players a chance and Zola would do that. I think he would also tend to sign up-and-coming players, rather than has-beens. TF would have to get some assurances regarding long-term commitment though.
Agree. If and when Harry moves on, I would prefer a young manager that has a proven record in investing in, and developing young talent.
Would all those who would not like Zola care to share who they would like? Let's assume that we are talking about from the summer onwards. Keeping Redknapp is an option. Only Beth has given a view so far. Its a bit Flyeresque having a bash but not putting forward an alternative.
