We sold Bale for 2 1/2 times that amount. It cost Levy and ENIC money. We dropped two places in the standings and lost our main marketing attraction.

Now we have another big marketing attraction and a 600 million dollar stadium to both pay for and fill. Selling Kane for 40 million would end up costing Levy and ENIC a fortune. Kane is under contract for five years. We haven’t sold anyone we wanted to a PL rival for seven years. How likely do you think it is that we would sell him to United for 40 million? It will happen as soon as Levy decides he doesn’t care about money and that the fortunes of Man U are more important to him than the club he partly owns.

Is Harry Kane a marketing attraction? He can barely talk.

It's really not meant to be a pisstake. I just don't see what marketing potential there is in Harry Kane. Good player of course and a nice lad but not the most charismatic.

You didn't notice all the media stuff about him then!

Today's odd rumour: Lyon saying we can have NJie - provided the two things happen:
i.) We give them £8m + Fazio
ii.) They don't sell Lacazette first

If the first does happen, that begs the question: will Veljkovic be getting more opportunities than we first thought, or was there something in the talk of us bringing in Nikola Maksimovic from Torino? Either way, a Serbian centre back is involved.

Why would United sell their closest rival for a CL spot last year a striker they want?
For similar reasons Chelsea sold them Mata a couple of seasons ago: they have an arrogant manager who is blissfully unaware that this is the sort of thing that could come back to haunt them much sooner than they would dare think.

Yes but I doubt they were marketing gods after 3/4 of a good season or whatever it is he's had.

No he's not a god just yet but he has had sufficient impact to make the media use him as speculation that United would buy him for £40 million. Football quickly produces heroes especially if he is playing for a major PL club. This should be fairly self evident to any one who follows PL football. Less so to a fan of Watford perhaps.

Maybe he'll be playing for a major Premier League club soon then.

We finished 5th last season - that makes us a major premiership club. It Ill behoves a fan of some raggedy arse outfit that can't stay in the prem for more than 5 minutes, to start taking the piss

Well if people want to make snide remarks to me it's only fair to give a little back. I'm not even a Watford fan.

LOL. That's a bit rich considering you're the one that came on here and started such obvious wumming.

For saying it wasn't an "insult" to Spurs that United would offer £40m? Seems like quite a compliment for such an inexperienced and unproven player or for questioning that said player isn't such a big deal in terms of the club's marketing and profile if replaced with Austin, a comparable player obtainable for 3/8 of that price and allowing you to strengthen other weaknesses?

Our team is built around the youth that have come through the ranks with us. Kane may go on to be a superstar (may not) why would we want to do that for Utd and miss out ourselves. Selling Bale for an enormous sum didn't work out for us, as there is always a risk bringing in new players - especially if they haven't played in the PL before. We'll stick with our own. QPR may want a team of mercanaries, we are building a squad
