Well after tonights performance I think I'm not far away with my predictions of what we need in this window. Seems to be all departments apart from goalkeeper. Second point for the night is that once again we are caught out buying crocks, to name a few Brown, Kaboul and Rodwell. When will we learn. No matter how good a player is he is totally non effective for us if we cannot keep him on the pitch.

Yet Robert Huth is performing heroics at Leicester, its all about selection and a bit of good fortune.

Your right, my point badly put, is really about player selection, and any team that buys expensive has beens and failures on the scale that we have is going to struggle.

And here we are doing it as we speak. 14m for a player that can't even make the Tottenham bench, only Sunderland <doh>

Stoke City transfer gossip: Sunderland eye up January bid for Marc Wilson

SUNDERLAND are ready to offer Marc Wilson a chance of regular football to boost his claim for a Euro 2016 place with Ireland, report the Daily Mail.

Wilson has been a near fixture in Stoke's starting line-up since half-way through his first season with the club he joined from Portsmouth in 2010.

But the versatile 28-year-old has been left on the sidelines for much of this season while Marc Muniesa and Geoff Cameron, then Ryan Shawcross and Philipp Wollscheid have filled the positions at centre-half.

Mark Hughes is unlikely to want to lose a player who can offer cover in four positions, a popular member of the changing room – and a fella with the guts to smash home a penalty in the Capital One Cup shoot-out win over Chelsea.

But Wilson, whose contract runs until 2018, will want to play more, especially ahead of the Republic of Ireland's trip to France next summer.

"Sunderland are weighing up a bid for the Stoke utility player," report the Mail.

"He wants to play more regularly with a place in Martin O'Neill's European Championship squad at stake and is interested in the chance to join Sunderland."

It would be interesting to see if Wilson would be prepared to a team who were sitting 19th and 17 points from safety.

Meanwhile, the Mail picks up on reports in France that have linked Stoke with Angers duo Cheikh Ndoye, a defensive midfielder, and Romain Thomas, a centre-back.

And former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has suggested Mark Hughes would be a good fit for their old club, if Louis van Gaal gets the boot.

He told Eurosport: "Look what he is doing with Stoke – how he has turned them around as a football team and a club that is attracting top-class players.

"Sparky is about scoring goals – his teams don't sit back, yet we've seen how he sets up his teams defensively as well.

"Stoke are better than United defensively - it is David de Gea that makes the difference there. In their last match Everton didn't create a great deal despite scoring three and it's the first time Stoke have conceded more than two this season.

"Sparky would be mentally ready to walk into United. It's great what they are saying about Ryan Giggs but he hasn't managed at any level regularly, Nicky Butt has done more. Is he really ready for it? I'm sure Ryan wouldn't say no to the club he loves. But I think we need that bit more than what he has done already – perhaps he needs to go away, manage elsewhere, and come back."
