The big money signings delivered (Ritchie, Gayle, Hayden, Clark), it's mainly the cheaper signings (Diame, Sels, Hanley, Gamez, Lazaar) that have been turds. It's not a bad hit rate in terms of success for money, considering that Villa spent an absolute fortune on dogshit that's got them mid table.

No more cheap French tat hopefully. I don't trust Ashley though. I still suspect he will do the bare minimum and pull the rug from beneath Rafas feet causing him to leave us.

 

Things would have been different if Hayden had been fit for more of the season, and if Gouffran had kept up his early season good form, as it is we've had to rely on crap like Colback and Diame in midfield, and we were never going to walk the league with them in the team.

I can't see us raiding France again, Carr's no longer deciding transfers, we definitely need more guts in the team though - ideally Cairney from Fulham or Clucas from Hull, and a striker that isn't going to get crocked, as we'll never be able to rely on Gayle in the Prem.

 

I think that you might be pleasantly surprised by Fatty this time, QWOP . . . . he'll have realised that it could work if a decent amount is spent on quality. He'll have looked at other, much smaller, teams that have done well after spending relatively modestly, and all that he needs to do to make it work is be better than about 10 'not very good' teams.

He'll get a much better 'return' if he sells the club after this speculation, and he's almost certainly 'woken up and can smell some coffee' now, so the realisation will, at last, be there.

He's got a very good, experienced, manager now, and I'll be amazed if he doesn't 'go for it' this time

Would love this to be true, but we clearly know by now all Fatty wants is Prem survival, we know he's not bothered about falling out with the fans, and doesn't care about us finishing high or winning cups, and the lack of spend in January showed once again that Ashley is ready to put the breaks on and limit spending. Rafa is a winner who wants success and will not settle for mediocrity, Ashley is a slimy stooge who just wants us to be consistently average and have no ambition so he can line his pockets with the proceeds....this is not a good combination.

 

I must confess, I haven't really enjoyed the Championship this year, definitely not when compared to the last time we went down and won it at a canter. Everyone else is in the PL, no one really pays attention to us down here. I live down south and everyone talks football, Liverpool, Chelsea spurs arsenal blah blah blah, but no one looks down at the lower leagues, but next year, we are up with the big boys again, competing!

New sponsorship, new kit (with the PL badge on) new signings, money, optimism. I genuinely believe we will break our highest transfer fee record this summer. a combination of BT and Sky, MOTD too! love motd!

Coming straight back up is all that matters, who cares about finishing top? No one will care come October/November, we will all be concentrating on the big league.
