Funny you should mention that, Ron. I have always detested "cruises", and I'd prefer a quick flight to the upper stratosphere (and back) than going on one of those ghastly (and unsafe-looking?) cruise ships. Imagine being stuck with two or three thousand on a huge ship for a few weeks. Thank goodness my better half has always been of the same mind. We had good friends in Norfolk when I lived and worked there, and they never missed their cruise holiday every year. They were both ballroom-dancing 'potty', so I guess it suited them both. One time they returned home with the 'joyful' news that they had dinner once at the Captain's Table! Fair enough, to each his own, but cruises ain't for this old geezer, never have been. However, thousands just love going on them. (To celebrate this time, will just throw a bash for family and friends at our favourite 'Indian'. That'll do just fine!. )
Paddy Brennan retires, stating he felt it was time after 27 years of giving it 100%... Not long after he was fined for publicly schooling for Fergal O'Brien Comedy - its all about timing. He actually was a lucky jockey for me back when he was in his younger days and obviously I liked him for that. Wish him all the best in the future. Well done SwanHills and Happy Birthday gazboy
Fascinating run by Spiritual in yesterday's Nell Gwynn. Gosden admitted before the race it was just to give her a race and that she was headstrong. Not put in the race at all by Shoemark and just ran through a few backmarkers in the last furlong. Will she learn from that? Well bred by Invincible Spirit out of a Galileo mare from the family of Reform, Islington, Golan and North Light so should stay further.
