If West Ham could win that piece of **** cup, it will be pretty embarrassing for Villa if they can't do the same. As far as Euro trophies go, its practically as bottom of the barrel as the bloody Intertoto ****e from years ago.

I'd absolutely love Newcastle to win it ... it's been an embarrassing length of time and any nufc fan being choosy I find baffling. I bet you'd love to win it mate surely ?

It's quite simple. It's a pointless trophy and competition unless Newcastle is in it. It gets very important then...

Exactly... Newcastle fans will play it down out of envy, but deep down inside we all know we'd love to win it.

We don't want to win it because we want to be in the champs league or europa league.

We won't win either for a number of years..too many better sides on all the main countries. Newcastle will do well in the europa like they used to,.but will come up short at least a few times before getting to a final and maybe winning. It's possible we are still sat in 30 years trophyless.. it really is hard.

No one cares that west ham won the conference league, but they would if it were the europa, that's the difference.

I think it would be great to have a crack at it. We'd probably do well and its a route to Europa at the end of the day.

Hopefully we land in it next season...is that 8th ? Newcastle would instantly be favourites to win a first major trophy in 70 years. It would be nice to get that monkey off our back and then go from there.

We were only denied progression in the Champions League because of a ridiculous penalty that never was against PSG at the end of injury time, we'd blitz through that Europa Conference ****e.

We played 6 games and didn't get through because we were the worst side in the group. Newcastle haven't won anything since the moon landing and I can absolutely guarantee if Newcastle won the conference they'd line the streets.. West Ham did and they won something in 80s... Villa also will big time..there's your true indication of what it means.

Point is we were better in both games that the team who is now in the semis, we drew and were ahead Vs Milan and Dortmund hardly outclassed us. Thus we could clearly hold our own at that level, and would tear through the conference.

We can win the conference cos we did far better in the league than the teams who ended up in the conference. Obviously if we did we'd be happy, but just because of the end of a trophy drought (the pathetic Intertoto thing doesn't count), not cos of a prestigious trophy.

Did we finish last... everything else is just mental gymnastics used to create an emotional preference. Basically finding anything possible to negate accepting Newcastle aren't good enough.

This trophy is classed a major trophy and the club that won it last year all know its value. Newcastle fans will do anything they can to play it down and we all know Newcastle fans would be ecstatic if they won it.

The Titanic being found is closer to Newcastles last trophy.

Yes, the table doesn't lie in that respect.

However the manner we finished last is totally different to the way Man U finished last. We would have got 6 points off PSG if it wasnt for that decision, and we pushed Milan all the way, Dortmund were significantly better than us admittedly. The fact 2 of our teams in our group are now in the semis isn't coincidental.

    Bit of both imo.

This football malarkey is a game of slim margins, one bad decision for the penalty and a moment of madness pushing for CL knockouts instead of making sure we qualified for Europa League and we are out of everything. Even Longstaff missing an opportunity in the last seconds of the first game of the group looks like a big miss in hindsight - but in all honesty that would have been in the dictionary under "smash and grab" if we'd scored it.

You get what you take though and it's rare the tables don't reflect the overall state of things at the end of the competition.

Could have been a bit of a blessing in disguise regardless - can you imagine this squad with the injuries and suspensions if we were still in Europe? We'd have burnt out in February and had a back five of Gillespie, Krafth, Schar, Dummy, Ritchie at this point.

Newcastle are not good enough mate that's the truth. Looking at ifs buts and maybes won't change anything. If Newcastle had finished 8th we would probably have ended the trophy drought.

That trophy drought will continue potentially for decades longer because we're not likely to defeat the big clubs any year. Those clubs have more money available year on year. The latest rule frees up money for them not us aswel btw.

Second para doesn't make sense, if we finish 7th and make the Europa Conference, then we'll have a huge chance, especially with players back from injury and new signings. We'd be one of the favourites to win that trophy and it wouldn't really mean defenating the "big clubs".

It's fine margins, PSG would have potentially been not good enough then, if they hadn't fluked through that group. We would have obviously gone out early had we made the knock out stages, but we more than held our own in that group for long periods, we sure as hell gave a better account of ourselves than Man U, where there was a huge gulf in class between them and the other teams

It does make sense...the list of clubs tells us that Newcastle would be unlikely to win it. You need to also consider who drops in it after the group stages of the champions league.

What you're doing is looking at everything through black and white goggles and finding reasons ro convince yourself that Newcastle were unlucky and held their own... we finished last mate and only managed 1 win in 6 games.

Newcastle hasn't won anything since 1969 ... the most likely way to end that is the conference league... even the league cup means beating all the big clubs to that prize which is much more difficult than beating Lille and Fiorentina isn't it.

All I want is a trophy.. finishing 4th and losing quarter finals semis and finals every year for another decade plus we can do much more freely if we get the 1st pot.
