I thought the Liverpool players were not very bright with their football decisions. No imagination once TAA had left the field
Nobody dictating play or looking to beat his man. Played it safe, didn't want to lose the ball and basically did nothing. Lots of passing it around at the back, going nowhere.
The PL might be the most entertaining league in Europe but it’s not the best despite what the likes of Paul Merson say
We are talking leagues not individual teams. But even the teams who have lost Arsenal, do you think Bayern are better? Possibly. Liverpool are Atlanta better? I doubt it. City are Madrid better, don't think so. We all know that any team, almost, can beat any given team on its day. The depths of these three leagues do not IMO compare with the depth of the PL. We have three teams fighting for the title that does not often happen in those league. Bayern wins most of the time (except when Harry joins and scores hatfulls of goals). Madrid and Barca most of the time. Serie A is a bit more diversified and maybe closest to the PL. There are too many variable in European games to draw definitive conclusions. One may play more games and their teams may be at a different stage of the season. English teams dominated in the 1970's but you couldn't argue that we had the best league. Dutch teams were much stronger then.
Italy? Its a ****ing joke of a league. Has been for the last 20 years. Corrupt as ****, even by modern day football standards! Spain, outside of El classico and Atletico, there is **** all there. German league is decent. Always liked the bundesliga. The PL is the most competitive for sure though. Even with City having won 3 in a row, they haven't been winning by 10, 12, 14 point margins. Liverpool and more recently Arsenal have been pushing them to the wire.
The other leagues IMHO have a higher technical competence per-capita but the PL is most competitive and demanding (whether a club is in UEFA land or not) .
If you’re going on entertaining and competitive then that would mean the PL isn’t even the best league in England as the Championship beats it on both counts. PL has all the money and expensive players but it’s not the best league on any criteria
List all the dimensions that you think characterise "best" , and we'll go thru them one by one re the PL and others.
Won’t argue over the corruption but it’s been class to watch these last 5 years. Will have had 4 different winners in the last 5 seasons. Had a team in all 3 European finals last year, Roma won the Conference the year before that and there’s 3 teams in the semi finals between Europa and Conference this season as well. Lot of ballers over there as well now, probably second best league after the Prem in terms of all round quality I’d say.
Aye, the whole league and every player was in on it, as were all the clubs in Europe that’s allowed them to do well of late
When one talks about bottling it you can look no further than Spurs performance in the CL Final against Liverpool! A,what? 15 second penalty.A 15 second penalty? Then we forgot to turn up for the rest of the game.....while Liverpool weren't much better, they did find the net. That one really hurt!! Did we have a shot?
lol, half the league got fines, some got points deductions, Juve were relegated. So yes, a lot of the league was in on it, along with all the refs.
Ahh yeah, that 15 or so years ago. Clearly an indicator of the league and its players quality in today’s game and why a number of their teams have been doing well in European competition of late…
The whole Barca thing with officials looks dodgy as ****. They were still a very, very good team, though. You can be good and corrupt at the same time. I suspect that there's plenty of dodgy **** going on that we don't know about, across the board. The lack of any sort of doping scandal in football seems massively unlikely. Guardiola failed a couple of drugs tests as a player, for a start...
