Leicester winning wouldn't be a disaster as we only need to be above two of the teams above us at the end of the season but Saints really do need to win to keep momentum and I believe that if the it is same starting XI playing the the same way as the other night then we have a very good chance of doing it. Continuity is the the key now.
I haven't looked closely (or at all) at the remaining games for the other top four clubs, but it would be 'interesting' if our final match v Leeds meant that both Saints and Leeds would get automatic promotion, if the result is a draw. You can guarantee that fans of Leicester and Ipswich would claim a stitch up. It's never going to happen, but it could be Austria v West Germany in the 1982 World Cup all over again.
I think this is possible but very unlikely as you say. It would require Leicester & Ipswich to drop points in both of their next 2 games and us & Leeds to win ours. If that did happen I could see Leeds sitting back and us just passing it around the back 4 for 90 minutes... Russ would love it!
Could happen, but a bit of a long shot. If Ipswich only get 1 point in their next 2 games (Hull away and Coventry away) then they could only get a maximum of 93. If Leicester lose to us and then only get 1 or 2 points against West Brom at home and Preston away then they could also only get 93 maximum. 2 wins for Leeds and 3 wins for us would put us both on 93 going into that last game so a draw would give us 94 each. I like the sound of that
If Leicester win tomorrow and Leeds don’t win on Monday does that mean that Leicester will be promoted if they beat us?
I've always loved working out the various permutations and who needs to do what. I missed it last season when the only thought was... we are f*cked regardless. It is also the only occasion in my life that I ever use the word permutations.
Yeah was having a conversation/argument with a couple of my mates who support Everton. They were saying we would give anything to be in their position now (struggling to stay up in the PL) and they would much rather have a season finishing 17th in the PL over a season getting autos in the Championship, not even close in comparison. Everton have obviously never been down so they don’t speak from experience but found that they thought like that hilarious
In fairness relegation fights can be brilliant... so long as it is an actual fight rather than whatever you'd call our efforts last season. The Stern John winner against Sheffield United for example... incredible moment and one of my all time favourite Saints goals.
