I sort of hope we get a draw in this one. The unbeaten run is great but the draws are almost comic in our inability to score from good opportunities or defend like professionals for an entire match. It's been a dire season to be honest, and the only bright spot is the suggetion that we now have a manager who know's what he is doing, and the suggestion that the management team might back him in assembling a squad we can feel excited about. In the meantime, we have this last home game to watch. An hour after it finishes, my local Spanish team have a huge match as they try to close a five point gap on the leaders with five games left. So I'll watch Charlton on the stream, but the build up id for a non league team who don't charge money to watch the games. Funny old game!
Shame we can't play Hartlepool any more. Their fans twice made the last game a bit special, dressing up as Wombles, then Oompah-Loompahs. I really hope for a win just to make the dreadful season a bit more bearable. Dobbo will probably get subbed in the 85th minute, and to see one of our two best players making a totally unnecessary departure will be hard. Over the years we've had some of our most boring games against Shrewsbury, and I wouldn't be surprised if this one follows suit and ends 0-0.
I remember us beating them 3-2 back in the seventies, although my vague memory is that we were 3-1 up at half time and the second half featured their second goal and little else. But yes, recently our games withe them haven't been much for the neutral. but after Fleetwood, Exeter, and virtually every game for the last few seasons, the problem may not necessarily be Shrewsbury
A win today will put us in 16th place going into the final game. What a brilliant season we’ve had. Thanks SE7 partners. You guys are the best.
Let's hope it's a decent game. It is my 5 year old grandson's first match. I wonder if he will get hooked like his Dad, whose first game was against Leicester at the Boleyn Ground when Charlton were playing there.
