Good Morning. It's Wednesday 24th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Two horse race for second spot Leicester City have all but cemented their place back in the top flight after annihilating sorry Southampton 5-0, last night at the King Power Stadium. A win at Preston on Monday will be enough see see the Foxes bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt, and although they face punishment for breaching FFP regulations, the riches on offer make any smack on the wrist well worth while. Southampton were pitiful and could not even muster a shot on target all evening. If they have already resigned themselves for the play-offs, that could be good news for Leeds, who play them on the last game of the season! please log in to view this image Do Leeds have the easier run-in? The mist has cleared, and realistically, it's Leeds or Ipswich Town for the coveted second spot. Only a point separates the two teams, and although the Tractor Boys have a game in hand, Leeds superior goal difference may realistically play a big part in who goes up. Kieran McKenna's side face a more difficult fixture list, having to go to Hull and Coventry City before ending their campaign at home against relegation threatened Huddersfield Town. If the Terriers can overcome Birmingham City (who failed to beat Rotherham Utd last weekend), then survival is very much in their hands! Before the Season finale against Southampton, Leeds face a trip to Loftus Road, who, after beating Preston at the weekend, have dragged themselves 4 points clear of the drop zone. Anything baring a miracle suggests the West London outfit are now safe, and have little to play for! please log in to view this image Leeds favourites for automatic promotion Despite Ipswich Town having a game in hand over the Whites, Bet365 place Leeds firm favourites for second spot. With Southampton bowing out of the automatic promotion race, the betting giants have slashed the odds of a top two finish to 8/13, which given their recent form seems very strange! They may have picked up three points at Boro on Monday evening, but certainly rode their luck at times. Importantly, during the trip to Tyneside, we saw Summerville and Rutter return to form. Their creative influence will be imperative over the next 180 minutes. Ipswich, who are a point behind Leeds are 'EVENS'. please log in to view this image
I don’t think Rutter returned to form at all. All his positive contributions were negated by his constant need to twist and turn and lose possession. That flaw in his game should have been addressed over the course of this season.
Good morning everyone A very woeful performance from Southampton last night, on which i will make my feelings clear to my Southampton chums. Problem i feel is, we can't seem to beat the teams we should be beating ie QPR away, and in all likelihood as someone else mentioned a weakened Southampton side, who will be saving their best players for the play offs, one point against Blackburn and Sunderland was just pitiful, and i fear, not a lot better return coming up. I really hope i am wrong and we break a long Leeds tradition of making it as difficult as possible for ourselves.
Thought he contributed more going forward, but he’s been woeful since the International break, so not much to improve on. A couple of things that worry me about Georgie is his constant pissing about then losing it when we are looking to go on the counter attack. In defensive areas that’s criminal to someone brought up in the Revie Leeds era. The other thing is his seeming attitude to goal scoring. He is shocking in front of goal, for someone with his technical ability (far worse imo, than Paddy), yet when questioned by Sky about it, he just shrugs his shoulders. I really really like the kid, think he gets Leeds, but he needs to up his game in these areas. Young he might be, but if we do get to the Prem, they’ll take him apart unless he improves greatly. MOT
Morning all It's not so much the run in, it is points on the board. Ipswich should be favourites because win their next three and we can't stop them. The fixture list is crazy and unfair (both ways) because if we beat QPR we are four points ahead. Lose to QPR and the pendulum swings to Ipswich who would need two draws or one win. If we beat QPR I have already convinced myself that will be good enough, silly I know and I should know better. I also assumed Southampton would have taken a point from Leicester.
Would they prefer to face Ipswich or Leeds in the playoff final, will they rest anyone, they have had a huge backlog of fixtures to play
And yet he was one of Leeds' best players. He had the most tackles and he won the most duels and duels on the ground than any other Leeds player
He lost possession 15 times that is 2 more than Byram, 3 more than Summerville, 3 more than Gnonto, 4 more than Bamford etc. So not much of a difference.
I believe if we win Friday, then that’ll definitely improve our chances (obvious I know), however whilst I’d love to believe Saints will just roll over in the final game, I just don’t see it. Teams need momentum going into the playoffs. After the Leicester result, Saints will need a big uplift in their final 2 games. They may rest someone whose not fully fit, but I reckon they will be as near full strength, against us, as they can muster. A full ER, a possible promotion for us on the line, what could possibly go wrong .
It’s a definite must win, anything else and it’s the playoffs. Even then we still have to hope “scoreboard pressure” is felt by Ipswich. Let’s be honest, they are in the box seat.
Who do we want to win them between Coventry and Hull? Personally I think Hull will give Ipswich a good game more than Coventry, they looked fkd after Wembley.
Norwich could and probably will be 6 points clear of Hull before they kick off, with a superior goal difference. Less incentive for Hull to win, other than pride.
