i agree. the club made a massive error making it public day 1 that the entire coaching Staff were going. would you listen to lenders waffling on about intensity when you know he is gone? players are players. our squad is alright, not a problem but there's always improvements thst can be made. we've had masses of muscular injuries which is really poor in terms of medical staff and our training imo the players are shagged out or unfit and it really really shows. some player shave been thrown in unfit because they are who they are and they are half walking and it shows. you'd ask yourself are palace letting their fans down massively if they can sudden start winning as per usual in the last few games again. thry do nothing in the cups. play 1 a wee and are fresh as daisies now and can run harder than other teams it really shows when these sides can get to every 50/50 and every second ball.
tbh if he laid into a player on the park and barked orders last night he'd look good. anything after the fact is pointless. yes if he went further and shrugged I'd want him dropped. thsts my point. sort it before the game sort it 3 weeks ago. be in control don't talk 3 games later when the title is gone 3 times over and tell us its not good enough. again staring down the barrell of 4th and hoping the expected spurs losses come. it's that simple because we have blown up.
They all need to sort themselves out, perhaps as individuals but certainly as a group - and that includes Virgil. I'm just saying that there's no point in criticising him for what he said because it's the response you'd expect. I don't know what the issue is - I don't even know if there is one beyond a little burn-out and an accompanying loss of confidence. I'm not going to speculate too much over reasons, these things become more obvious with hindsight so perhaps we'll have a better idea when the season is over and we see who comes and who goes.
The disappointing thing about last night is that I almost expected that kind of performance, which is a shame for a Derby match but it is what it is. The bigger picture is that i'd have taken top 4 and a cup win at the start of the season. A title win was always going to be a stretch for this squad. Klopp's timing of the leaving announcement was a gamble that had its pros and cons - we've seen both.
the evidence in front of my eyes is the results of whatever they are or are not doing in training. the backing looks an utter shambles of organisation. the minimum I expect is that the full backs are not behind the cbs and the cbs are moving as one line. it was a joke last night.
Some of this should have been said in the dressing room. He’s said we weren’t good enough , fair play to Everton. Mass criticism of the other players shouldn’t be aired
I'm not advocating for it but I see no problem with mass criticism. If nothing else, it lets the fans know that the team are taking their performances seriously by the fact they know they've just had a shocker and the captain's confirmed that and said it isn't good enough. Had he singled out individuals for criticism, no, that wouldn't be fair. It's a really tough psychological one. The team knows the manager is running out of steam and they feed off his energy. I also think the fans protesting about ticket prices at Klopp's last home European game, had a longer lasting effect beyond that game. If you acknowledge that the fans act as 12th man and can drag the team over the line then you have to acknowledge that the opposite is also true. No flags, no songs, protesting on that particular occasion was the wrong choice. If waving the flags is all about support, then not waving them shows a withdrawal of support. Last time the fans protested with a walkout, we were playing Sunderland who scored almost immediately after and scored again within a short time to win the game. A game they should never have been anywhere near winning. As I said, several different aspects that have psychological effects on the team. I'm sure they're not losing on purpose.
Vvd seems to hold a lot of influence and command a lot respect from the players and I don’t think saying the whole group need to look at themseves is a bad thing. im sure behind close doors more is being said but if any of them (bar diaz) thought their individual performance was good enough then there are bigger problems. Unfortunately teams just falling at the final hurdle but let’s not be too harsh. Been a brilliant year until last few weeks with young players stepping up when needed and new players bedding in. Depth in certain areas just not there and unfortunately our strongest point of going forward has all dipped at same point which is epitomised by salah’s huge dip post injury. jotas been sorely missed. he’s our most clinical striker and been out for 75% of the season. Nunez for all his work and I do like him just doesn’t look natural in front of goal. He’ll chip in with goals and tbh he’s done a decent job this season. His goal/assist stats are brilliant and comparable to most in the league but it’s just the big chances he misses that cause issues but those issues are masked when you have Salah and Jota scoring 15/20 league goals to compliment nunez’s 10
I think the srtikers need the rest of the team working and need to lead the first line of press. the slowness of passing and shuffling about is killing us but equally the poor pressing is killing us. we would miss 10 and scored 3 earlier in the season now we are not making chances so thr same miss rate is catastrophic
I agree with this - as I said further back if he'd just shrugged his shoulders then everyone would accuse him of not being bothered. This shows that there is an awareness that it simply isn't good enough. To those saying he should have done it weeks ago, well maybe he did behind closed doors. Regardless, that horse has bolted, and it's better that he shows it now than not at all. He did seem to come perilously close to pointing the finger, and I really wouldn't like to see that, but I think he stopped short. We all know the players who aren't performing for whatever reason, and so do they. Of course we're disappointed to see the season fizzle out as it seems to be doing, but managers and players come and go and we're fans for life - big changes are ahead, so it's not the end of the world, just the start of a new era.
Not entirely true. How many chances did we create against palace united and Everton? Palace game I think there were 5 glorious chances that you’d expect to put away 3/4 of them 9 times out of 10. Same against United, nervous chances squandered and the same yesterday. Nunez should be putting it into side netting rather than at Pickford. Salahs pass across goal from taa’s pass was almost a tap in but for brilliant defending. Diaz hits the post from a great run and shot. Salah snaps at a couple chances with left/right foot and puts them wide/over. We just aren’t getting that bit of luck at times. Go back few weeks. Haaland volleys one of for a throw but his the Luton player and flies in for an OG. Last week White mis hits a cross that loops in over the keeper at back post. Sometimes luck has a huge impact on games.
I agree with everything you've said here. "It's not the end of the world" - it just feels like it .... at the moment.
Not much point now, the season is over (I know it's still mathematically possible but even I've given up how now), may as well go to the beach already. That's not me moaning btw. I'm over the moon with how this season as gone. None of us truly expected a title challenge after last season and a midfield rebuild.
It's not over till it's over. I'm willing them to provide some great football drama for us and Klopp to remember.
What I mean by that is that they are at fault collectively and need to look at themselves and their attitude for the future. I agree that it's too late for this season, but like I said, it's a new beginning soon - and they all need to be in the right frame of mind for it. Those that are still here, of course.
