I’m not denying he’s the best, but the value of a top WR being paid like a QB against having the cap space to pay other positions (and possibly having 2 very good WRs in Addison and someone they draft this year, both on rookie deals) is definitely worth consideration at least
I get that point, but Vikings are projected to have a lot of cap space next year. A potential Jefferson extension would take up a chunk of it but we'd still be in good shape.
It’s all theoretical anyway because the reason the Vikings would be looking to trade him is also the reason teams wouldn’t be queuing up to give the Vikings loads for him.
So it's the day before. Anyone staying up to watch it? Or setting an alarm? I've done the latter before but with the likelihood of the Vikings trading up, it would be a bit risky and hard to know what time to set up so I'm just planning on watching it on dazn tomorrow morning.
Always record it and then watch it with a couple of mates tomorrow. Getting harder and harder to avoid the news on what happened though during the day on the Friday. Will watch day 2 and day 3 live though. Day 2 could be boring as **** from a Vikings perspective, depending on what happens in day 1. There is a scenario where they might get some day 2 picks with a trade back from 11 or 23
At least gotta watch it as live, dazn is free for the off season. Seems a bit anti climactic to just find out from some social media post
Oh yes I know what you mean, I've got to turn off my alarm on my phone, then load up Spotify all the while avoiding any notifications and posts that my phone will no doubt be throwing at me, until I can get to work and then I can watch it on my work laptop... Gonna be a mission
Will stay up for as much as I can. Colts don't pick until #15 (at the mo) so it's likely I nod off once we've picked.
Woke up at 1.15 so stayed up to watch the Vikes pick. I have to say I would have loved Maye but that was obviously not happening as it only took Pats 5 mins to take him. But I'm very very happy Vikings got McCarthy at 10 and keep the 23rd pick. Had to make the trade with the Jets once Penix was off the board. I think Kwesi has played a blinder.
Hmm, I think Hurts won't complain about missing out on ending up on his arse several times in one game.
Now the dust has somewhat settled, the Falcons really threw the cat among the pigeons with them taking Penix! Which actually worked to the Vikings advantage as it forced Denver to take Nix at 12. The upshot of all 6 QB's going so early is that the top defensive players slid down the board. I personally think Turner is the best defensive prospect in the draft (there was talk of him going as high as 8) so well worth the trade IMO. Vikings held their nerve until they literally had to trade up for JJ to avoid getting jumped by Denver - no doubt the Jets made the most of the situation which is fair game. I think I like the way this has worked out more than had we mortgaged the future on Maye by trading up to 3. Turner will be an excellent replacement for Hunter and while McCarthy isn't as highly rated as the top 3 QB's, he sure knows how to win and I don't have many concerns about him adapting to KOC's playbook - worst case scenario is he'll have a year to learn and work with the coaches before taking over as QB1 for the 2025/26 season. Or he'll quickly establish himself like Stroud did with the Texans - he has a similar build to him and he'll take the league by storm! I've compared the two draft reports and there's not a big difference there. Stroud was slightly higher rated due to arm strength - that's one thing about JJ that does give me some concern. But hopefully he can work on that.
Just finished watching. Can’t be unhappy. They got McCarthy which was the QB I thought they would get, and got the second best defensive player in the draft (in my opinion) and kept next years first. From the draft capital they had they’ve done well in my view. Time will tell if either player is actually any good, but right now can’t complain
Well people who are more educated about college football than me seem happy. Also kinda liked that everyone thought we were gonna trade up to get our QB and while we did, it didn't cost much. Maybe time to get a new jersey. My Teddy Bridgewater jersey is sadly falling apart as I've worn it so much.
I am looking forward to watching Turner in a Flores system. He is super quick - quicker than a lot of RB's and WR's apparently. Definitely a DROY candidate.
Just catching up with the reaction to round 1. I think they’ve done well, got the QB most people thought they would get at 4/5, but gave up not a lot to get him, against some of the trades that were projected. Got a guy in a position of need for a lot (when you factor in what they gave up to get 23 in the first place). But Turner was projected as high as 8. The people who are moaning about the draft are essentially saying that you’ve swapped Cousins and Hunter plus a load of future draft capital for McCarthy and Turner. I’m pretty happy with how it’s panned out, but can understand the people who aren’t. Have to wait and see how McCarthy and Turner turn out, I’d back a 21 year old McCarthy in the Vikings system to be better than Cousins long term. Turner to be better than Hunter is unlikely, and it will take a few years to really know if giving up their 2nd and 3rd next year was worth it
