Actually, since Guardiola's been at city he's only won the last 6/6 games once. 16/17 won 4 drew 2 17/18 won 5 drew 1 18/19 won 6 19/20 won 4 lost 2 20/21 won 4 lost 2 21/22 won 4 drew 2 22/23 won 4 lost 1 drew1
Have to check at what point had they either a) already won the league within that 6 game period, or b) not been able to win and already secured CL football and nothing to play for though.
I was responding to the claim that 'city won't lose their remaining games because that is what they are best at'. Regardless of whether they've already won league or not, and twice in that time they beat us by 1 point btw, winning out the last games hasn't been what they are best at.
I guess the assumption is ‘city won’t lose their remaining games because that is what they are best at….. when it matters’ would be a fairer assumption then. Not sure city have lost a title when fighting it out to the end? Only ones not run recently we won comfortably, and Leicester/chelsea wins they were well off the pace going into final month I believe?
your stats are slightly wrong 21/22 was won 5 drew 1. so the two years we ran them close they won 6 in a row and Won 5 drew 1 so when the heat is on they get the job done.
That's the only tines they had to as well. They were also out of Europe. There is absolutely no basis to believe thry will even draw a game based on the fixtures remaining and state of the opponent. Spurs can't defend and have injuries. It'd be a massive shock. Even then we now need 2 losses.
. And this season they've not been at their utmost best anyway. I'm not saying City won't win the title. (I would give them well above 50% chance of doing just that)... But it absolutely is not inevitable they will win all their remaining matches. They've already dropped points twice since people on here started saying "they won't lose any more points this season". On average this season they drop points one every three games (although I do expect them to do better as some rivals have nothing to play for now and City has a title to play for). It's perfectly possible they could go unbeaten... It's perfectly possible that they will lose points. Unfortunately for Liverpool (and Arsenal) even if City do drop points, it's certainly not guaranteed we won't drop more too. As said above, I give City above 50% chance of winning title... Maybe as high as 75%. But, I only give them a 50% chance of going unbeaten between now and end of season.
Yes you're right, I including their 3-1 defeat in May by Real mistakenly for a league game. I don't think anyone doubts that city have a habit of winning and winning when it matters. I was trying to be a bit upbeat as to our chances by countering the claim that city are best at winning out the season when the evidence is contrary to that claim. I'm not expecting them to drop points, I never do but there is hope based on the past results.
Problem is it’s not just city. Also relying on arsenal to drop at least 4 points (unless we somehow smash someone 8-0 with arsenal also losing 8-0
It is absolutely unlikely we will win the title now this season... But it's still possible and still worth a proper fight. Make whoever wins earn the title. It's almost May and we're still in a title fight. That's pretty good on balance. I think most of us would have been thrilled at the start of the season to know we would be three points off the title in April. We're certainly a lot closer to winning the title than we were 9 months ago.
Villa giving chelsea another hiding. Thst brings villa within 6 points of us with 3 to play including a game at villa Park. Villa reaiming games. Olympiakos h Brighton a Olympiakos a Lfc h Palace a Probably a conference league final then If we lost to spurs they could over build us at villa Park however our gd would ne far superior. You'd think they'd be tired after all just but we thought tjst v arsenal and they tonked them
A Chelsea villa draw here works out nicely for us. Means we need a draw to secure top 4 (unless huge swing in GD with villa).
Chelsea gone and won it in last minute now 9 ahead of villa with 3 to go and a plus 21 GD and 15 ahead of spurs with 6 to go!! Would take a huge **** up to lose top 4 from here.
