So now it seems Jill Dando was murdered by the Serbs. The former Chief Constable John Stalker wrote a newspaper article at the time, concluding exactly that. Shame no-one listened.

I was going to watch the whole program on iPlayer to assess what you’d reported Lardi, but having just seen the opening credits and the introduction from Fiona Bruce, I shan’t bother.

It just reinforced and proved that my opinion of Question Time and the BBC is correct.

Opening introduction - “The Government has finally got its Rwanda plan through (strong emphasis on the word ‘finally’ while at the same time jabbing her arm down) but if dying in the channel isn’t a deterrent (shaking of the head), will being sent to Rwanda be ?” (shrugging of her shoulders while raising the pitch of her voice when asking the latter question).

Well done Fiona, yes that’s the way to start off an impartial debate isn’t it.

But it’s ok, then she goes on to say “Our local audience here is, as always, a broad reflection of the electoral picture across the country”.

No Fiona, it really isn’t. It’s the audience that your producer has decided to invite.

I still believe BBC News is the closest we're going to get to a balanced and generally objective News service in this modern world.
Granted, it does have something of a moderate left wing bias, as it is probably influenced somewhat by the rest of the BBC - which shares a left wing view of the World common throughout the entertainment industry for a Century or more.

I still trust it to be generally more impartial than Sky News, GB News or Channel 4 News
But I find it disappointing that sometimes its content does not reflect the best effort possible to be impartial.
And on the occasions when I feel that, I'm happy to say it.

Possibly the story was picked up from a mini social media frenzy overnight.
If so, lazy journalism. Social media is not a reliable source of anything, except bile.

    PS:

I had a quick look at the GB News website the other day.
They have lots of negative pieces about Duchess Meghan displayed quite prominently.
I don't like her much, but it seemed a little bit over the top I thought.

    Why a Serbian assassin?
What was the motive? Was the killer simply paid to carry out a hit?
    Very unsettling stuff.

Jill Dando had made a TV appeal for, I think, help for victims of Serbian invasions of neighbouring Baltic states. Feelings were running high.

She's been told by the judge that she doesn't have to answer any questions that may incriminate her. Could get quite juicy.

TRy to imagine the reaction if this happened 40+ years ago before beggars and rough sleepers became the norm.

Although the Met Police as an organisation is pretty crap these days and although many senior officers are totally out of touch with the public and their own junior officers, individual front-line officers are indeed the very thin blue line which keeps us safe the vast majority of the time.

To walk towards a big bloke, carrying a three foot long sword (who has already stabbed two of your colleagues) armed only with a Taser, which is only effective about 65% of the time, takes some serious balls.

22 minutes from 1st 999 call to arrest.

Hats off to the officers involved in this.

Oh dear Monty, now you've gone and done it.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68929678

    Talk about naïve.
Was it really a good idea to throw in your lot with two politicians who have refused to condemn the Hamas slaughter of innocent people and taking of hundreds of hostages on October 7th 2023? Two men who are in fact friends and supporters of Hamas?
A position which must be shared by their odious little Party, which you've just joined.

Monty, you need to have a word with your friends. You have been very ill-advised.
You were well respected for your cricketing skill.
But you're being used by these creeps.
    Think again mate.

    Measures need to be taken over this;
    Here's a few options;
    • Ban all Samurai swords from public ownership. Similar swords as well. Samurai swords are the most lethal hand held bladed weapons ever created.
    • Ban all zombie knives too. Should have been done years ago.
    • More armed Police units in unmarked cars patrolling every city. Ten minute response. One bullet. Not reliance on iffy tasers.
    • Police drones monitoring busy areas. Somebody flips out in a public space, collide the drone into them.
    • Anyone claiming manslaughter due to insanity never comes out if convicted. No rubbish about them not being a danger anymore.
Enough is enough of people losing it and slaughtering innocent bystanders.

Don’t disagree with any of that, but it’s just putting one plaster on several gaping wounds.

We have to turn our society back 50 years. Proper discipline in schools. Proper sentencing in courts. Proper tough Policing.
No handouts whatsoever for the workshy. Lock up those with serious mental health issues where they are a danger to the public. Anyone caught dealing drugs - one warning sentence then lock them up for 20 years. Enforce parking, littering, begging, urinating and disorderly behaviour offences robustly and constantly.

In schools, teach children about their responsibility not about their rights.

No child benefits for any more than two children. You want more, you pay for them, including health insurance for them.

    That’ll be a good start.

Don't agree with the government lifting the ban on 100% religious schools. The French have got it right, education and religion don't mix. Each to their own, but private beliefs are just that.

I’ve often considered starting a religion thread on here, but would it be too troublesome ? Let’s give it a go…….it can always be deleted and I won’t complain about latent censorship this time :emoticon-0105-wink:

“I backed off as far as I could and was telling them not to come any closer and that I was very frightened, I felt my back against the wall and had nowhere else to go. They were bigger and stronger than me and I feared that I was going to die. So I shot the f*ckers your honour”

    Guaranteed not guilty verdict.

It's Election Day X across large parts of the Country.

Remember to take your photo ID with you, because unless you can prove you're not a fraudster you can no longer cast your vote in person.

And if you're a person who does not wish to reveal your face to strangers as part of your religious faith, you will now be obliged to violate your belief, or you will not be allowed to vote at any polling booth.

Since 2019 there have been 24 cases of electoral fraud which the Police chose to take action upon. Mostly issuing cautions.
In the last round of elections alone, 14,000 people were turned away from polling stations because they had no valid photo ID, or were unwilling to reveal their face to strangers.

A sledgehammer to crack a nut.
Chalk up another victory for the Establishment over civil liberties. <applause>

What (not you personally Lardi) have you got to hide ?

It’s a sensible precaution if you ask me.

How else would you confirm someone’s identity at a polling booth ?
