I don’t, none of us know why he was sacked. But for the club to say its results and resting players which Nige hinted it wasn’t that. Means it’s something else and the club went down that route to maybe protect his reputation. What I do find weird, is if Nige says it’s A but club says it’s B why do you lot assume it’s the club lying. It’s not like Nige is god and can’t possibly be in the wrong at countless clubs. Plus the club have never said anything about his health. So fans saying they are using it as a smokescreen is fans assuming the club said that.
It did come across that he had very little to do with the coaching and training aspect....that there is a red flag in my book. He seems very good behind the scenes but when it came to the actual football IMO there's a void. Curtis Flemming was his ears.... I honestly much prefer a coach that is amongst it all.. Liam is all that.....It's all about what's going on on the pitch..
Initially I thought he was an arrogant twat, but grew to quite like him and found him quite interesting, especially how he orchestrated the press conferences..... He's a likable guy......but we need a coach to take us forward.. I believe Liam is that coach..
Another post on Bristol City til I die We will always be a Championship club at best and L1 at worst we’ve these idiots in charge. Pearson was brought in with a very clear objective and he did that with more to spare. Never given a chance to show what he could do with a proper transfer kitty despite the fact he’d earned it after 2 years of cost cutting and keeping us in the Championship. The sooner they sell up to someone who wants to make a decent attempt at getting promoted the better.
And another comment He inherited a s**tshow of the owners’ own making due to their preposterous decision to appoint Holden and he did get us back on an even keel. What’s done is done and I think Manning is doing a reasonable job when you consider the resources at his disposal, but the pattern of results / performances hasn’t changed much overall and I’m not sure events since October lend much credibility to what the owners’ justifications for getting rid were. Plus, Jon Lansdown is slimier than a slug contestant on Pat Sharp’s Fun House.
So, what was this very clear objective? Was an objective ever made public? We all assume the season he came in was to survive, so ✔️ But what were objectives for season 2 & 3, I highly doubt that was to avoid relegation, knowing Sir Steve, so for the Nige luvees to say it was, is simply folly and naieve. The higher ups dealt with clearing the decks and the finances, Nivea job was in the pitch. Say what you like, but I do t believe that matched up to the senior’s objectives.
Second year was pretty much the same as the first as we were still in the process of ensuring we didn’t breach FFP, third year we should have progressed with the help of a small portion of the proceeds of the sale of Scott & Semenyo. SL decided in his wisdom not to do that though, but keep a “nest egg”, it was his fault this season was another consolidation one, not NP’s. Hopefully we’ll finally use some to give Liam a chance next season, but if I were you I wouldn’t hold your breath.
ROD, the facts are that we were doing ok - not great - not badly - just ok. Not a reason for sacking. The transfer window had just closed, so no time for a new manager to bring in any players. I don’t believe results justified the sacking. I don’t know exactly but I don’t believe it. The whole thing was strange. Weird. Having said that, I like what Liam is trying to do and he has my full support.
The reasons the club gave didn’t stack up, the results weren’t that bad, our injuries were really bad but some were due to start coming back into contention. JL also questioned whether players were lacking conditioning???, I didn’t realise he has expertise in the field of conditioning of professional athletes, and certainly not enough to question those that do. NP said he learned the sacking was due to results and lack of conditioning in the press, if that’s true what reason did they tell him it was for?
Wow, still lots of fans grieving Ok.. I’m gonna stick my neck out and say next season we will finish at least in the top 6.. if that happens then the decision was the right one
I wish Nige well, think he did 7/10 job for us. However in the interview although he says he can coach he seems to admit he isn't a coach to the level of the modern game. Evidence of this is how long it took for him to sort our defence out. He also said he had to do the best with the players he had, not dissimilar to the players Liam has had available, and done a better job IMO.
There is so much that could happen between now and August that I’m unconvinced that sufficient money will be forthcoming to make us anything but also rans I’d love to be proved wrong though
I never said results were bad, and the sacking shocked me. What I’m saying is for Nige to be surprised they used that excuse. So that tells me something else was said in their meeting to sack Nige. However none of us know what was said, but a lot of us are jumping on the club like it has to be their fault. For all we know it may be Nige’s fault but 99.9% the fan base assume it can’t be Nige’s fault. I’m just amazed that people are defending Nige and saying it’s X or Y yet none of us know the facts.
Morning Rod. I know where you're coming from but if I had to choose between the honesty of JL or NP then I'm 100% with Nigel Pearson.
