I thought the lad had went quiet. Thought he just of been on a massive holiday somewhere. Lording it up.
I know people don’t like smoke blowing up their bum holes but Adam is someone I always take the time to engage with. I have him on my Twitter as well (stalkerish?) I guess I’m saying don’t be a stranger Adam mate
He is very close mate, both in London this week I think JS has passed on his knowledge, love him back here.
Canny bizarre read from Chimbonda on Sun pages re Keane. Says he was only at the club for matchday most weeks, which kinda ties in with what Short said at time.
KLD: Hi, Kristjaan. I had just finished the interviews with all of the candidates. Now it has been finalised and down to these two. What’s your thoughts on them? KS: Really appreciated, Kyril. I must say I really like this guy. I believe he has the potential to progressively move us forward as a club. I heard his training is one of the best I have… KLD: Ok, that’s that. I’ll appoint the other one then.
Agree. If the rumours are true and Speakman does leave I hope we don’t move away from the DOF model. I wouldn’t mind a different profile and skill set though. Speakman was clearly appointed due to his experience in youth development. That’s critical to the strategy of the club and he’s implemented a lot of changes for the better at the academy. It should not need the same level of change and focus from the DOF from now on. If we were to bring in a new DOF I would want someone with more expertise and contacts across Europe and globally to improve our recruitment. Getting getting value for money and making profit, similar to Brighton, will be a fundamental to the club progressing.
It's a really good post this. I'm not in the Speakman out camp, not overly fussed if he goes, but the DOF model is the right approach. There's a good argument though that the youthful foundation phase of our rebuild is now complete and we're ready to move to the next phase. We have 10-15 players under the age of 24 who are all in the growth stage of their career and will make the club a profit when they leave. We also have 4 players in the first team squad from our academy (including Embleton) and Watson, Young, Johnson, Richardson, etc. all with more than a chance of making it.
Don't think that phase will ever be completed, that's the way the model is, every year we need to bring in young fresh blood to develop. Problem we had was we didn't have any to start with. People thought all our signings were to play now, I personally don't think many were. I'm sure Jobe wasn't brought in to play every game. That's were the tweaks should have been made, there should have been 3 experienced players brought , I'd say a CF, CDM, and CB that should having been playing nearly every week. Had we done that we could have rotated some of the younger players. This process will take a while to get the cogs in place
I'm not saying it shouldn't always be a priority for the club. My point was more that we've done it at an extreme level and now it doesn't need to be the only focus.
