Selling programmes, operating a turnstile might break his ankle pushing the pedal down to allow admission.
So we finish the season in 16th place and on 53 points. Last season under Thomas Sandgaard we finished 10th on 62 points. Since Nathan Jones took over we have played 16 games and gained 22 points. Over a 46 game season that points ratio would put us on 63 points and this season would have meant a 12th place finish. 3 year plan ? To achieve what exactly ? Unless we have major additional investment above what our revenue/wages ratio allows, we are not getting promoted anytime soon.
Well after the poorest season in the 3rd tier in 98 years - and by a big margin as well, all the staff can go off and enjoy their Summer holidays. The least impressive 14 game unbeaten run in football history comes to an end, as does the longest run of dead rubber games Charlton have ever had to play. Are they having a party next weekend? They might as well let Dobbo and Alfie share Player of the Season. Nobody else has been better than bang average, and most are a disgrace. I feel for our travelling fans. Twice was it? That they got to celebrate a league win on their ways home. Next season I'm looking for One gaffer, from game 1 to game 46. Top half league position all season. To be in the mix for 6th place until the last game. Pipe dreams, all three of those things. But that's the way things should be for CAFC in the 3rd tier. Absolute minimum. Not flirting with relegation and sacking a manager every three months.
I feel forthe travelling faithful, mainly those who just go for the football. I spent the day at the beautiful gardens at Great Dixter. I recommend them.
The worst Charlton game I've ever seen was also a 1-0 loss to Wycombe, under Les Reed, and we were in the top tier then, Wycombe were in the third.
I assume he signed it after he got the job as manager If he signed the shirt you have before the Dowie / Reed / Pardew season, I still think a dedicated collector might bung you a few quid for it.
I knew one of the kids' coaches who attended one of his courses. Reckoned he learned nothing, Uncle Les was an over-rated long-ball merchant. The coach who taught him most was El Tel.
Interesting to hear given his CV, but I suppose people are not always successful throughout a career. I went to a Bromley supporters meeting years ago, the one thing I would say was that it took him an age to answer a question, I got the impression his motivational skills could be lacking.
Our worst season in 98 years - fact. Running up debts of £800,000 a month in L1 is unsustainable for any owner, so a big summer is now coming up. the back 4 & both keepers need ripping up - I’d keep Ramsay, Small & possibly Jones , the rest can leave . The midfield is a car crash - we have no with, pace or creativity. Nathan Jones doesn’t seem to fancy Alfie May. We need 7/8 new players minimum - first team starters , not squad players, and above all we need Andy Scott - the man who created this mess, to be fired.
This season can only be described as a disaster. If our leading scorer only got 15 we'd have been relegated, I hope Alfie gets a bumper pay rise, along with Scott getting the bullet.
“Some just want to slate the team, while others have noted that our Xg has improved to 0.01 per game, and that Dr Will is now in the building. Perhaps we should enjoy the first ten games of next season, and see where we are at the end of September before taking a view ? Only 25 more sleeps until the Welling pre season friendly”. - Charles Hawtrey
