Off Topic Migrant crisis

The irony is that the Irish Supreme Court has ruled the UK is not a safe Country to deport their illegal migrants to, because there is the possibility that they will be moved on to Rwanda.
Courts eh? What a pain in the they can be somtimes.

I'm guessing that unlike the UK's latest Treaty with Rwanda, where they promise (honest!) that they will not move the people we send them on to other third Countries, or conscript them to fight with Congo forces in the Rwanda/DRC border War, Eire will not be getting a similar treaty with the UK.

Perhaps Ireland can strike a deal with its great sentimental partner the USA. Joe Biden is an Honourary Irishman isn't he?

Good on the locals fighting against the flooding, we need to follow suit.

 

I see Wes Streeting agrees that immigration needs to be brought under control.

Streeting says on net migration, people agree it's too high - but to bring it down you need a "serious plan".

He says shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper has a "serious plan" and accuses the Conservatives of producing "gimmicks".

 

It will be interesting to hear what the plan is and if they dare mention it before the election or indeed put in the Labour Party Manifesto.

 

Historically, immigration control is a weak spot for Labour.
I don't think we will hear much from them on this subject before the GE, even if more goes wrong with the implementation of the Rwanda policy.

A historical weak spot (Labour) is one thing, but 14 years of failure to control net migration (Conservative) is another.
I suspect those negatives will more or less cancel each other out when people vote in the GE.
I don't think it will be a big election decider.

And I doubt they will be alone in that conclusion for long.

It's a shameful state of affairs, but that can't be helped I suppose.

Sadly this is the way things have to be.

Rishi Sunak's crowing that the Rwanda policy is "working" is particularly unedifying, as well as wrong.
We were told the Rwanda policy was supposed to stop the boats.
Not be a fig leaf for ethnic cleansing.
Well the boats haven't stopped. Crossings are at a record level.

In the coming years we will have to do things that will truly make us into monsters, in order to preserve our society.
And those things will be done.
But I won't be taking any pleasure or satisfaction in them.

A few days ago it was announced that these people would be detained when they keep appointments for meetings concerning their asylum applications. That was just about the dumbest thing I have ever read about the way this policy is to be implemented.

The people running this Country right now could not find their own backsides with both hands, never mind enough 'eligible' people to fill a small aeroplane.
I expect we will now hear calls for the Authorities to stop wasting their time chasing the elusive migrants who fit the criteria for deportation as laid down in the Act that was just passed through Parliament.

Those voices will say why not simply detain anybody who is seeking asylum, regardless of how they got to this Country.
Or perhaps even just anybody who looks like they "don't belong here".
That's what this policy is really all about after all.

Anyway, I’ve got a much fairer and cheaper scheme than Rwanda.

A nice ferry to Belfast then a single bus ride to Cork.

If the EU is so concerned about our immigration policy and the way we treat illegal immigrants then they’ll be pleased to have them back, so that they can protect them from dangerous, unsafe Britain.

Not so much changed my mind as being resigned now to what's coming.

We are now at the thin end of a wedge.
Step by step, what was previously unthinkable or unacceptable will be thought about, and will be accepted.
The Rwanda plan is only that first step.
When it become morally acceptable to most people, and / or when it fails to stop the boats, the second step will come. Resisted at first, but then gradually accepted. Then the third step, and the fourth...

We (the whole World) are now on the same path that led from whitewash graffiti on shop windows, to the gates of Belsen and Treblinka.
And I think it is no coincidence that those unspeakable horrors are just beginning to pass from living memory.
There is no stopping it now, and my soul - if I have one - will be as damned as anybody else's because I did nothing about it.
We're all going to Hell.
