Oooh, a wonderful new TV documentary about how brilliant Manchester City are... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68687128 I don't have Netflix at the moment but I must sign up straight away so I can watch every episode
Lara Croft voted most iconic video game character of all time https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-68721939 "She's gone from being very pointy and childlike in drawing to very filmic," says Shelley Blond (I kid you not), the actress who voiced the original Lara. The character beat the likes of Mario and Sonic for the title in a poll of gamers. Shelley tells BBC Newsbeat she's not surprised, even though she admits she's never played the game herself. "What is so iconic about Lara Croft is the fact that she is the first female lead in a video game," she says. "She's all about girl power and female empowerment. She's at the forefront, she is what the adventure is." Lara is at the forefront all right. Or at least part of her is It's sadly amusing how exploitation can just be whitewashed over by re-spelling it "empowerment".
Sad to hear about those Desert foxes on David Attenborough's 'Mammals' program on Sunday. If I had a pet Desert fox I'd call him Rommel.
Anyone remember 1970's TV series Doomwatch? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-68927816 The very first episode was titled The Plastic Eaters. At its height Doomwatch attracted audiences of 13 million viewers.
I didn't even know they had audiences at the dress rehearsals. Or was the poor girl booed by the stage hands and sound engineers? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjewg9enx27o Maybe they just didn't like your song Eden. Come on everyone, be nice to her on May 11th. We all know Eurovision never has anything to do with politics
Could they really not find anyone with a less provocative name than Golan ? and who originally wanted to sing a song titled October Rain which seemed to be about the October 7th events ? It’s almost as if they are sticking two fingers up to the rest of the world. Now if she was singing November Rain that might be a bit different.
Somebody pointed out on the radio this morning that it does seem like double standards from Eurovision; Banning Russia over the invasion of Ukraine, but taking no action against Israel for the destruction of Gaza. Perhaps the Palestinians should have their own entry in the competition next year. Or Israel, Russia and Australia could be removed permanently from the competition, for the simple reason (Geography 101) that they are not European Countries. Or the whole competition could be abandoned. Any of the above options would be OK with me. The second option would seem the most sensible, if people still want to pursue this totally non-political festival of camp music. It really did jump the shark when the bearded lady won it. They should have left it on that high note.
The fag with the inch-long ash was also a challenge. BTW there is an accoustic version of it somewhere on you-tube with Slash and a singer.
