I've been mildly interested in a recent article concerning the plight of 'Non-Doms'. These are those very wealthy souls who are foreigners who opt to live in UK but are not required to pay income tax on their earnings from abroard. This has apparently been the situation for over 200 years and it is estimated that there are just under 70000 such residents. Both Tory and Labour plan to scrap this. Their aim is presumably to increase the revenue to the Treasury. One person who will be effected said, 'It's a no brainer. Why should I stay here to pay many millions of pounds in tax on money I have earned from my Work in other countries. Obviously I'm moving and so will the vast majority of those in my situation' Makes sense to me, when Monaco or Dubai, say, will happily accept them and want not tax, income or Inheritence, from them. And what about the UK Treasury. It is getting nothing now, so no difference if they leave. And this is true if we are only thinking interms of Income Tax. But these people also spend some, at least, of their weatlth here. That generates VAT. The person I quoted said that he was going to list one of his Company's, valued at around a Billion, on The London Stock Exchange. Now though that business will be lost to where he moves to. No doubt they support a raft of other enterprises as well. Public Schools for example. Hard as it to weep at the thought that some Public Schools might feel the pinch if thousands of rich kids have to move away, I can not quite see the benefit to the country here. Of course it's a popular policy amongst the more 'woke' members of the Political Classes. But it does seem, to me at least, rather like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
But there are political points at stake. Therefore, **** the money we get from them. It won't matter a jot to the politicians pointing fingers at each other, they're alright. Tax is a negotiation with anyone who can afford to move to another country with their money.
A life lesson A father said to his son "You just graduated, and this is a car that I bought a while ago. It is a few years old, so before I give it to you take it to a car dealer in town and see how much they offer for it.” The son came back to his father and said: "They offered £10,000 because it looks very old" The father said "Hold it and take it to the 2nd hand car dealer." The son returns to his father and says: "The pawn shop offered £1,000 because it is a very old car and lots of investment is needed to drive it again" The father asked his son to join a passionate car club with experts, and show them the car. The son did so and said to his father: “Some people in the club offered me £100,000 because it is a marvellous car that is in good condition, with great personality and it's very rare.” Then the father said "I wanted to let you know that you are not worth anything if you are not in the right place. If you are not appreciated, do not be angry, because that just means that you are in the wrong place. Don't stay in a place where no one sees your value, go where you’re celebrated . . . . not where you’re tolerated.
Thats correct, any money earned through work or pension anywhere in the world will be taxed if taken into Thailand. How they can police this is a completely different matter!
This has happened a few more times recently, thinking about putting some large plantpots at the end of the empty drive, that or bury some nails (joking).
This just popped up on my Google memory thingy - 10 years ago today (5th May). I didn't even recognise SKP at first . . . . fantastic memories flooding back
All these weird phrases he claims are often used on here ... ... despite them never being used on here.
