Our latest recruit on here has triggered this thread.
I have no problems shopping cheaply. Sports Direct always get my business for trainers.
    Primary for underwear and socks.
    Aldi and Lidl for food.
    Wilko, RIP, for toiletries.

I assume they have the equivalent of Pound shops in Brazil.

Nowadays most of them aren't too bad to shop in, they tend to be part of big corporate chains.
Years ago though some of them were complete sh*tholes. There were a few in Woolwich that were so awful you had to hold your breath to go inside, the very air smelled of building site urinals on a very hot day <laugh> :emoticon-0119-puke:

I only go into Pound shops occasionally nowadays because my old mum likes to browse their wares.
    I still miss Woolworths :emoticon-0101-sadsm
Got to admit I tend to go for the higher end supermarkets. Their stuff is just better. No denying it.

    Not many local shops left
I try wherever possible to use them rather than chain stores, which concentrate on the best-selling items. By doing that they lower the price, put the little man out of business, só you can't buy the less popular items. Use them or lose them.

Brazil is not too much different in price when comparing to Aldi and Lidl, sadly poundshop style outlets don't exist.
I have to agree with the likes of Waitrose and M&S, particularly the latter as the quality of the grub is second to none.
We always used to go there when it is Mrs Elfs birthday<laugh>
