Funnily enough I’ve just come on here to post about the very same thing. Why would Ferrari want to take Mercedes performance director and make him head of chassis performance, when the Merc over the last 3 years has been dogshit.

Wonder how long Serra will last in the position if they get Newey on board….especially when one of his roles is aerodynamic development.

 

I am growing doubtful about Newey to Ferrari, maybe as a consultant but not full time, not on the pitwall.

 

Yeah, said the same to my dad, he could do what he does while on a yacht in the middle of the pacific.

 

Newly may actually surprise us all and just retire and have nothing to do with F1 anymore.

 

If you see Newey's body language, he indicates studied perfectionism.
It is not that other designers are uneducated it is the depth of exploration of the art of the possible in his thinking, that comes over. I think his uniqueness comes with a deeply questioning mind that doesn't only see the obvious. His overwhelming thought is "ok, it works like that but how do I add value to take it to another level". His knowledge is deep. You can explain and teach the technique to others but it doesn't make them capable of the same comprehension. Everytime it is unique.
Expression of genius. Either you have it or you don't.

Adrian Newey has said for the first time that he expects to join another Formula 1 team following his decision to leave Red Bull.

The 65-year-old design legend said that he was “seriously considering changing teams, going somewhere else and doing another four or five years or whatever”.

Newey added: “I feel a little bit tired at the moment, but at some point I’ll probably go again.”

Newey’s decision to leave his role as Red Bull chief technical officer after 19 years was announced earlier this month.

His latest comments come in an interview with his manager Eddie Jordan, the former F1 team boss, in a marketing video for a yacht company that has been released on YouTube.

Newey, regarded as the greatest F1 designer in history, does not reveal where he might go, but he is known to have had conversations with Ferrari about moving there. Ferrari, who are regarded as the strong favourites to land Newey, have refused to comment.

McLaren Racing chief executive officer Zak Brown has said “never say never” about recruiting Newey. Williams team principal James Vowles said he approached him and had a “light conversation”. And Aston Martin are believed to have made him an offer, although the team officially deny that.

Newey negotiated an early release from his Red Bull contract that allows him to start working for another team in early 2025, in time for him to have a major influence on the design of that team’s car for the new F1 technical regulations that are being introduced in 2026.

Lewis Hamilton, who is joining Ferrari next season, has said he is keen for Newey to join him in Maranello. Newey said that made him feel good, but added that it was “not why I get up”.

Newey's decision to leave Red Bull was partly influenced by the controversy surrounding team principal Christian Horner, who has been accused of sexual harassment and coercive, controlling behaviour by a female employee.

Horner denies the allegations, and has been cleared by one internal investigation. Another is ongoing after the complainant appealed, and while that is also expected to end with the same result, there will be further developments as time goes by.

Newey was also frustrated by what he perceived to be attempts by some figures at Red Bull to publicly play down his influence in their current success.

In the interview, he said: “To walk away from Red Bull was a very hard decision but it was one I needed to take for a whole host of reasons. They had been my family.”

He acknowledged being caught by surprise by the level of interest in his decision.

“I never really thought it would be big news so for it to be in all the flipping papers and on the telly was almost a bit of a shock,” he said.

Newey said that his decision to keep working beyond retirement age had been influenced by two factors.

One was that his father retired at 65 and “kind of lost his way a bit, just lost his mojo a bit”.

The other was asking motorsport veterans Bernie Ecclestone and Roger Penske, still working in their 90s and 80s respectively, about retirement.

“They both said the brain is like muscle, it needs exercise so you need to keep doing that,” he said.

 

It's not his job, it's his vocation, he'll keep going until he's either dead or unable.

 

I agree with the brain being like a muscle statement. 72 next month and haven't stopped. I did change industries in my mid sixties.

 

Hope he doesn't go to Ferrari, Hamilton only hope of winning another title though.

 

I must say how much I enjoyed Harry Benjamin doing the commentry this weekend,so much better than that idiot croft.
At least Harry doesn`t constantly shout at you if there`s an overtake or a crash etc.
But,I think croft is only off for 3 races or something like that,worse luck.

 

I don’t mind Croft to much .

Best combination for me would be - Brundle and Davidson .

Not going to happen I am sure , but still my ideal pairing .

 

McLaren are bringing a special livery for Monaco. Part of me thinks it should be the red and white Marlboro livery or Toleman who he first drove for.

 

I wonder if there’s an issue with it being so Marlboro-Centric that it is prevented legally.

I know they did the Chrome last year at Silverstone, but whist that started out as West (cigarettes), they could argue it was eventually the Vodafone chrome etc whereas that red and white was firmly Marlboro.

Every fan wants it!!

 

Andretti have confirmed the appointment of former Formula 1 chief technical officer Pat Symonds in a major coup for the team’s F1 entry plans.

It emerged on Tuesday that Symonds had left Formula 1 after seven years, having played an influential role in the formation of the sport’s 2022 rule changes and the move to ground effect cars.
This Andretti bloke is certainly not going away !!

 

I wonder how hard he is trying to lure Adrian !!!

 

That`s a very interesting question.

I seem to remember a small news report on TV that he`d had some sort of base built at Silverstone,maybe a factory?
I don`t think that I imagined it !

 

Glad to see that Michael Schumacher`s family have been awarded compensation for the AI aricle in that magazine.
They have received 200,000 euros.
