Oh the bullshit about this player. I thought he was going abroad for a money spinning life changing move he’s ended up in L1 in the biggest karzi in Yorkshire. His agent must be in line for the Pulitzer Prize.
I intend to maintain the CAFC summer forum tradition of asking a Mod a stupid & obscure question about a player nobody has ever heard of, to elicit an answer so vague as to be meaningless. In that spirit… @lardiman Any truth in the rumour we are signing Jock McTavish from Patrick Thistle? I heard Nathan Jones is up in Scotland at the Edinburgh Festival..
Anyway, moving swiftly on…… Good news or bad news ? We’ve now triggered Thierry Small ‘s contract extension, so we can keep him until this time next year. However, we were only going to do that if he hadn’t signed the longer contract we have offered him. So, if he won’t sign a new contract, at what point and at what price do we sell him ? Now, January or let him go for nothing next June ? And 200K, 500K or 800K ? https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/spor...tic-trigger-thierry-small-contract-extension/
It would be nice to keep him until January, but I think he'll be off during this Summer. Hey ho, can't be helped. If he doesn't want to sign a new deal then so be it. Not the best start to our Summer re-build though.
Football is a business and every player has their price. However, Jones will want to keep his best players and at present there is NOBODY who can command a fee where it is silly not to sell. Allow Jones to keep who he wants and let's not f*** around in this window.
I agree with the sentiment BUT this idea that Jones somehow has complete control over who he keeps and who he signs is pie-in-the-sky I’m afraid. Nowhere has it been said that that is the case. In fact quite the opposite. It’s a negotiation between Jones, his staff and the recruitment dept (Scott) and at the initial stage it includes discussions around costs and wages. Only then is Jones given a short list of who he can have (based on what we can afford) so by that stage his initial desires will be watered down by the need to save that all important £8-9M per year. I can’t see the SMT letting Small go for nothing next summer, so if he won’t sign the measly new contract, then he’ll be sold either this summer or in January. It’s the vowed intent to make a profit from player purchases and sales. That’s the reality of having owners who want to get to break even I’m afraid. Just my (evidence based) opinion of course……
I think we will keep him till the end of the Season. We have effectively put him in the shop window. The Club do not have to sell him now as they have exercised the option for another Season.
Do you think Methven will turn down an offer of between 500K and 800K in January, knowing that he will then walk away for nothing 4 months later ?
He employed Scott. He is the mouthpiece to the richer owners. It’s his job to reduce losses by £8-9M per year for those richer owners. There’s only so many ways to do that and making profit on player trading is something he can control.
