So, the missus and I were watching this film on Netflix, or whatever. And half way through a snippet of one of my favourite songs by perhaps, for the time, one of the greatest bands of the time was played.

Google, somewhat less than helpfully, offered this as the lyrics.

But, for one point: what was the song?

    Thunderstruck? Seventies? FFS

Immigrant Song was a good call. Not that band but another of a similar stature, I would have said.

    Two more clues:
    1. There's a Jesus connection, and
    2. It was, strictly speaking, written in the 60s.

Well, I know the song that you're thinking: from Dark Side and had, controversially, Sam Brown singing on a live version.

    But no. Think Jesus Christ.

Talking of Sam Brown, I saw her sing with this band, as it happens, at the Albert Hall, sometime ago. Oh, clues galore being dropped here.

Yes, Deep Purple's Child In Time.

The Jesus connection? On hearing Ian Gillan's vocals on that track he was given the role of Jesus on the JC Superstar original recording. Gillan later turned down the offer of the film and the original stage tour because he didn't wish to be known for being JC on stage and screen.

Anyway, Google's extract of the lyrics weren't much help really.

Thanks for That. Checked it out on Alexa when having my coffee this morn. I'm too young to remember them properly but went to a deep purple gig with my old man about 20 years ago. Remember thinking how insanely loud they were.

Saw Deep Purple in Newcastle about 9 years ago, and was disappointed that they didn't do Child in Time.

Found out afterwards that they'd retired that song about 20 years previously as Ian Gillan couldn't sing it - he'd lost those high notes from his range.

    Brilliant night though.
