What do people think of this one?

Personally I'm not sure, Mark Hughes is a capable manager but seemed to struggle with the pressure of being Man City manager. Being Celtic manager and dealing with the Scottish media is ten times the pressure. Really an old hand is needed to steady the ship IMO if Mowbray goes.

Does anyone think Mark Hughes would do an immediate job? Is this just paper talk? Have Celtic just chosen to write this season off?

You'd be better off with John Hughes. <ok>

I like Big Yogi but like Mogga his teams play good football and can't defend for toffee. If we we're going for a young manager I'd pick Paul Lambert and get Willie McStay or someone similar as his assistant.

Why sack Mowbray now anyway? Be as well to give him until the summer at least. Everyone is away at the WC anyway and pre-season starts a bit later.

To be honest I think thats what you will do - give him the season and if (hopefully when) Rangers win the title, then look for someone new in the summer.

Makes more sense. I've never been a fan of sacking managers mid-season. Especially when there is still a chance of trophies. The league is still winnable no matter what the pundits say, the SPL is so changable that it only takes a couple of weeks for a swing to happen. I would keep Mowbray if he managed to close the gap to a respectable margin and won the Scottish cup.

He really needs to win at Ibrox for the fans to get back behind the team though. Anything other than a win and I suspect he'll be given his jotters.

I'll happily take a draw at Ibrox, then win our game in hand and keep a good distance between us.
Seen too many X point leads dissapear over the years (on both sides) to be entirely comfortable (but MrsW always says Im a optomistic **** anyway <laugh>)

Yeah Sunday should be interesting. I wonder if Walter will revise his recent OF tactics because Celtic have some competent strikers now? Keane, Kamara, Fotune and Rasmussen are a more difficult prospect than VoH, Samaras and Skippy IMO.

Although as I said in Mick's thread Boyd/Miller could cause problems for a young CB pairing. I'm really looking forward to this game as it has the prospect to be a great game, or at the very least a tactical battle between two teams who have different playing ethics.

I think Wattie might actually have a go this time, knowing how fragile the Celtic defence is.

True but I wonder if he'll be worried about throwing caution to the wind? Unirea is a case in point for that, you were mugged by fast counter-attacking players and a striker who plays off-the-shoulder. This is similar to what Mowbray is doing with McGeady and Kamara wide with Keane and Fortune up-front and I think Smith would be wary about that kind of play.

I think he'll allow Celtic plenty of the ball because thats when we're at our weakest; trying to break down stubborn teams. Mowbray will need a plan B and I would put Rasmussen in there as finding space in the box is critical when you are the team with more of the ball.

That story is full of balls, don't think Huges would enjoy the transition from having a limitless transfer fund to buy any player on earth to having to deal with 'loan before you buy to make sure you're not ****e' deals with celtic. And apart from that I don't rate him that highly for the wages he will probably demand.

I'm willing to give Mowbray time. He's bought a whole new team and it wouldn't be worth upsetting all the people he's brought in with the uncertainty of a new manager. I think a bit of stability is exactly what Celtic need at the minute.

Oh, aye it's a load of ****e Mick but was just posting it out of boredom. The article says it was in "The People" <laugh>

I don't agree with sacking managers after less than one season and there are glimmers of improvement right now, although we've had a few false dawns this season already. But I'll be reserving judgement on Mogga until this time next week. If he can get a win at Ibrox then maybe we can push on from there. But I worry for his job if we lose, it'll be another nail in his coffin.

The thing is; Mowbray asked Strachan's team to start playing a totally different brand of football almost instantly and fell flat on his face. He should have eased into it and worked hard on the areas that were lacking. People make out football management is a difficult job but like any other profession I suspect 90% of it is common sense and 10% ingenuity.

Hmmm, I thought Bellamy was great for us but can't see it happening JB. Would be great to see but it would have to be on loan again.

Bellamy scored the second best goal I've ever seen in person at CP. Scored a volley straight from a Sutton corner against Aberdeen. Magic.

Best one was Liam Miller's goal against Arsenal in Tony Adam's testimonial. He flicked it over his head, controlled it with his knee then volleyed it into the top corner from the edge of the box. Absolute belter.
