Another one of our legends has departed us. RIP http://www.southwales-eveningpost.c...s-dies-at-81/story-29748794-detail/story.html Fantastic to watch the clip of Swans v Sunderland. They certainly weren't mollycoddled then.
RIP. Seems like yesterday I used to watch his son Jeremy playing for us too. In fact it was 35 years ago.
Always had time to talk to anyone,he had some awesome stories to tell, what a varied life the man led!,I'm sure him and John will be looking down sharing a glass or two!..RIP charlo
Stokie here RIP Mel Charles Old enough to see him and his brother play and young enough to remember. Thanks for those memories
Mel was part of the post war Swansea Town conveyor belt that produced such as Ivor and Len Allchurch; Cliff and Bryn Jones; Terry Medwin; Trevor Ford; Roy Paul; Ray Daniel; Harry Griffiths; and a whole host of others. Being John Charles' younger brother meant that he always walked "In the shadow of a giant", the title of his autobiography incidentally, and the fact that he did so, uncomplainingly, is testament to his character and the reverence with which he held his older brother. Injury curtailed his career, so we will never know just how good he was. But he was a great player. Another Son of Swansea has left the stage. Thanks for the memories Mel. RIP.
The first game I saw was Leeds versus the Swans with John playing for Leeds and Mel for Swansea so it's been a long time RIP Mel.
Mel was a true legend who i was lucky to meet on a number of occasions. I was privileged to watch Swansea Town with mostly local lads formed the bulk of the side and my entrance fee to the north bank was just 1/6 old money and the atmosphere was second to none....Mel was a fantastic man and has Swansea football right through his blood. He will be greatly missed and if anyone deserves a stand named after him then Mel stands out...RIP MEL
