Transfer Rumours transfer thread fact and fiction

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by remembercolinlee, Feb 1, 2017.

  1. On TalkSport, at the moment, Durham and Goughy are discussing the "realities" of life in football, that unless Levy doubles his players' wages we are going to see a mass exodus, in the Summer.

He's already got Alli off to City, Alderweireld off to Real, and Walker off to Chelsea or United.

He's forgetting the fact that most of these players still have 3-5 years left on their contracts, of course.

Tune in tomorrow where he says that, if Orient all paid their players on a par with Man Utd, they wouldn't be dropping out of the league.

We used to spend about 50% of our income on salary. I'm reckoning that the recent round d of wage increases would take that up to 60% or maybe more. If we doubled the salaries, which is still less than Citeh will pay (£185k per week for Sterling FFS), then we'd be paying out more than we get in.

Only a moron like Durham would say something that stupid. Supposedly, he's a sports journalist but doing research and discussing matters other than ridiculous fantasy are beyond him.

If its not bad enough that we have endless drivel from the UK papers and English Pundits we now Xavi and De Boer selling our players for us.

These are opinions - why are they quoted as fact? The opinions of ex players (particularly those with associations with certain clubs / manager) are no more relevant than the opinions of supporters and as such should be treated in the media in the same way

  9. It's the idea that all of our players, not even just one or two of them, will leave the club in the Summer, because we won't double their wages, that's what makes me laugh.

It's as though contracts don't mean a thing is Durham's world. As Bale and Modric each discovered, contracts do matter, and you cannot simply walk away from the club whenever you feel like it.

I expect all of our players to be offered new contracts in the Summer, and if any of our key players refuse to sign a new contract, then we will have cause to believe that they could be angling for a move away. Even then, the chances of any of our domestic rivals getting their hands on our players is remote, and the chance of any foreign club getting their hands on, for example, Alli is remote unless they are prepared to pay out £120m+, and even then it is likely that Levy will demand at least another season with the club (a la Modric's move to Real).

Real can probably **** right off, after they sold a key player to Arsenal, in the wake of the Bale transfer. "Special relationship" my arse!

    <applause>,<applause> and thrice <applause>

And another <applause> for finally biting back at the queue of muppets who are desperate to tap up our players.

"I don't know what Xavi said - is he working for Manchester City now?" <laugh>

    Damn right.

There's no way of getting a fag paper between Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy. Not like Big Sam who followed up on his chairman's "Zaha not for sale at any price" message with "what can you do when an offer's too good to refuse?"

As long as both say "Not for sale". Nobody leaves this summer unless we list them and we stick to it that's an end to it. I strongly believe that our need to maximise sponsorships means Dele and our other leading lights have to stay whilst we confirm ourselves as regulars in the CL and title challengers. Long term we may need an injection of capital into the club to lift the stadium debt but that can't come through players being sold. On completion of the stadium a having the NFL franchise established the club must recapitalize or seek further external investment to pay off the stadium debts to allow for success on the field.

  14. Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, 25, is ready to step up and play for Barcelona, according to the Dane's former Ajax boss Frank de Boer. (Ekstra Bladet, via Daily Express)

    <doh>
    Step up.

Messi is a good player, but does anyone truly believe that he'd been even half as good in the Prem?

When are these arrogant assholes going to get it into their thick skulls that moving to a country that has nothing more than a glorified Scottish league is not necessarily a "step up" for a professional footballer?

  15. Barcelona have ruled out selling Brazil forward Neymar, 25, who said last month he would like to play in the Premier League. (RAC1 - in Spanish)

Well, perhaps Neymar wants to take a "step up" from Barca?

Neymar knows that the true test of any great player is to deliver on a
wet and windy autumn/winter wednesday night game at Stoke.

The Star are reporting that we're considering signing Willian as a Sissoko replacement.

Just how much fail is in that sentence?

There's just so many things wrong with that story. The Star don't even try to pretend they're real news, do they?
