You can't see much can you, perhaps you choose not to for your own reasons ....... each to their own I suppose.

I did't say it was supposed to be funny, I said sarcastic and a comment on how fickle some people are.

It was obviously a thinly veiled dig at United supporters that most people could see without any problem, whereas you struggle.

The point was that I don't understand how some people can feel any real pride in a club far from their own area & family.

I've never had any respect for people, from Exeter or Norwich, who simply pick a club to follow, for no good reason other than they may be top of the league.

My other point was that some people, these days, see nothing wrong in changing allegiance whenever it suits them.

And the 'scarf protest', what happened to that ......... it seems that, for some, 'principles' are just high street clothes shops.

I find it slightly cowardly to pick a club, to follow, knowing that they'll win more than they lose.

Perhaps, if wining is everything to them, that's why they can't handle it when it goes 'wrong' as it has with Man Utd.

I personally find it weird talking to some bloke from Devon who's a 'fanatical United supporter' for no other reason than they were on top of the league when he first chose them as 'his club'. When you go to Old Trafford you see the coaches arriving from all over the country full of exhausted people who've travelled for hour after hour to arrive in city they don't know.

I just don't see where the pride comes from in watching a club you have no real connection with.

I can take banter and winding up before the match but that's just ****ing wrong.

If you're gonna reel off crap like that excuse me whilst I spew up the old 'You'll always be in Newcastle's shadow' line.

We had a bad loss on Saturday, Swansea probably didn't deserve the win but that's football. The young kid Blackett giving them the ball for their free kick was a representation of his inexperience and that cost us dearly in the end. The back line were all over the place, we looked pathetic in CM, with no link up play and Mata constantly being dispossessed.

That team won't go anywhere, it was shocking and pre-match we knew we were in for another **** game when we seen the line up, the inclusion of Lingaard as a RWB had many of us scratching our heads to say the least.

After seeing that first game, I was a little disappointed, but we'll come good so long as we add some experience to the defence.

Also Smug as for your question, I think a lot of people just got a bit bored of the 'protest'.

I think if Ellis Short acquired £700m worth of debt against your club you'd be a bit pissed off as a fan, and fans have a right to vent their frustrations in any way they please. I've seen far worse from Liverpool and Newcastle against their owners. The debt has been successfully serviced and now is relatively small in comparison, plus the value of the club has sky rocketed over the past few years as well so it was inevitable that as peoples worst fears were calmed, the furore was also going to calm as well.

Fans don't have the benefit of hindsight or financial forecast so they were rightfully worried, for me personally I was enjoying the football at the time and that's all that really mattered to me, I can detatch myself from the club sufficiently so I don't need to get involved at that level.

As far as the top top clubs go, I find man u one of the more likeable. The fact that they appeal to so many is just a consequence of doing so well for the past 20 years. Its nothing new.

Their global popularity dates back to the Munich air disaster where many of the players lives were lost. This forced Sir Matt Busby to put a lot of young players into the first team, and so was born the Busby Babes which captured the imagination of football fans from around the world..

We've come in on the crest of a wave, our massive fan base in Hong Kong and China is all because of their love for everything British, the economic boom over there coincided with the PL era of which we've established ourselves as the best team in the country, delivering trophies consistently. The inherent nature of people from that region all want the best, their families think nothing of spending £20,000 on flights and accommodation to come and watch just one United game,.

I've always said if we set up MUFC Airlines exclusively from Beijing/Shanghai/HK to Manchester, we could charge what we want and they'd pay it, we'd hoover up cash like never before in sport.

I'm sure there was some kind of information gathered about the location of a clubs season ticket holders, and iirc, Man Utd had the most local support? Might be wrong like.

I've read that somewhere as well, there were a few polls locally done as well and the 'Salford's not Manchester' lot were put to shame, turned out that even without the Salford figures we had more, plus there were more lads from Cheshire supporting City than United, dispelling another myth.

There's one City fan on this entire forum, that PPLeftFoot, I bet he's from Cheshire, by all accounts a nice chap despite our run-ins and disagreements, that's my basis, stereotype... probably.

    A yank site

    You're a Restoration Hardware fan

Your team is Manchester United. In the interest of full disclosure, it should be noted that the alcoholic troll writing this article is a Manchester United supporter, and, no, it's not like supporting the Yankees (honest). United is one of the top teams in the world, rebounding from a deplorably **** season. The new man at the helm is Louis van Gaal, who led the Netherlands to third place in the World Cup. United won all five of its preseason matches in America (including a 3-1 victory over rivals Liverpool) and are playing like Arnold Schwarzenegger to last season's Danny DeVito.

Good to know: United-Swansea is the first match of the 2014-2015 season, kicking off on Saturday at lunchtime in the U.K. Set your alarm and then watch this before kickoff. But the real question – on the first day of the season, and every day after that – is whether van Gaal can bring back the glory the team knew under Sir Alex Ferguson as recently as, oh, 2013.

    ................................................................................................

    You're an underdog

Your team is Sunderland. Sunderland somehow crawled out of its own grave last season, with the safe money around New Year's being on the team getting relegated. A miraculous run – beating Chelsea and Manchester United, holding Manchester City to a draw, thumping Cardiff City 4-0 – saw the side rise from the relegation sewer to 14th place. Also, U.S. striker Jozy Altidore plies his trade at Sunderland, and while last season was one for Altidore to forget, if he can continue the form he's had for the U.S. national team (pre-injury, of course), things will be looking up in not-so-sunny Sunderland.

Good to know: In a shock move, young midfielder Jack Colback left Sunderland for rivals Newcastle United at the end of the season. How heated is the rivalry? One Sunderland-Newcastle match last season ended with a wee riot that featured a Newcastle supporter getting arrested for punching police horse in the throat. You might also want to Google "Sunderland manager fascist" for a bit of context on last season's rocky start.

<laugh> even the yanks talk about it.

    Stupid yanks, restoration hardware fan?

There's people in America who turn up in numbers to watch tables and chairs going under the mitre-drill and orbital sander?

No I can see things which are funny.

Like when you said the other day that you "could take on" either of the Kray brothers, now that was funny.

Back to your original point. People choose their club for many reasons. And if Sunderland started doing well and people from around the uk and world started following us because we were successful, id be very happy with that.

I'm floating between the uk and Southern Spain at the moment. And whilst in a gym in Malaga I saw a local Spanish guy wearing an safc shirt. I was shocked so curiously asked him why.

He said he's been following us for 2 years and was hooked after last years miracle escape. He brought 2 shirts from the safc website and follows us very closely. I walked in the gym the next day and he informed me about the jack Rodwell signing. I thought it was great to see him following our club, and also buying shirts from the club shop.

If we could get an extra 10,000 fans every week, from round the country, that brought tickets to our games, it would help the club no end.
