The vultures are circling! History repeating? ie Sir Les? Newcastle plot Charlie Austin transfer from QPR to convince Steve McClaren to be their manager 22:30, 16 April 2015 By John Cross Derby's ex-England boss tops Toon hit-list but will want proof of their ambition before leaving Championship side he could yet get promoted this season Derby's ex-England boss tops Toon hit-list but will want proof of their ambition before leaving Championship side he could yet get promoted this season. please log in to view this image Austin powered: Would buying the QPR star show Newcastle mean business? Mike Ashley wants £10million-rated Charlie Austin to kick-off a summer spending spree designed to lure Steve McClaren toNewcastle. Toon owner Ashley is ready to bankroll a busy transfer window with Queens Park Rangers hot-shot Austin lined up to be the latest in a long tradition of famous No9s including the likes of Alan Shearer. Derby manager McClaren is first choice to take over at St James' Park this summer with the Magpies' season tailing off in a run of five consecutive defeats with former No2 John Carver in caretaker charge. But former England boss McClaren will want to see signs that Newcastle are determined to compete in the market having sold stars such as Mathieu Debuchy, Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba over the past few seasons. Austin has been in superb form, scoring 17 goals in 31 games this season despite QPR’s struggles at the foot of the table, and has even been in the frame for an England call-up. Crystal Palace and Southampton are also watching developments, but Austin tops Newcastle’s wanted list. please log in to view this image Buying time: McClaren is in Newcastle's sights but still needs convincing The 25-year-old, who has made a fairytale rise from playing non-League and laying bricks via spells at Swindon and Burnley, has one year left on his current contract. That means QPR, who sit 18th with five games to play, may have to sell on the cheap this summer - and seem certain to lose him if they do go back down to the Championship. McClaren is red-hot favourite to get the Newcastle job, and for him it would be a return to a big club in the Premier League. The 53-year-old is still in the hunt for the Championship play-offs with Derby, and could yet lead them up to the top flight a year after suffering defeat to QPR in last season's play-off final. But McClaren seems destined for St James' Park, with the Rams keen on Burnley’s Sean Dyche. Birmingham boss Gary Rowett is another on their shortlist. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-plot-charlie-austin-transfer-5531615?
Too many if's and buts. If McClaren gets Derby promoted then I can't see him going to Newcastle unless Mike Ashley dangles a big fat £$£ transfer budget carrot in front of Steve. Also if we do avoid the drop I think we will manage to keep hold of our Austin for at least another season. The press are a bunch of tossers and our beloved QPR need to step up now and prove these lazy journalists wrong. Come on U R's, make us proud!
Great sales pitch - you would have had a transfer kitty but I spent it for you. Ashley could seal the deal by taking McLaren out for a nice meal and then eating it for him.
He's only recently settled in Wokingham, Berkshire so I doubt a move to Newcastle is very appealing. Should he move in the Summer, it'll be a choice between Southampton/Crystal Palace or perhaps even Bournemouth as an outside choice.
Newcastle could do with him but they won't get him. Hope Charlie scores a hat-trick in our game on May 16
The way they are playiing Newcastle might not get another point this season. They are not out of the drop race themselves.
if he really wanted to go to Newcastle cannot see the fact he's settled in Berkshire being an issue. footballers seem to be very transient creatures and can up sticks at the drop of a hat.
Newcastle will need him and quite a few others , can see them struggling next season , think Austin will have better options if we go down to be honest
Charlie Austin transfer: Southampton join race for QPR striker set to be sold even if they avoid relegation 22:30, 17 April 2015 By Darren Lewis Newcastle have already targeted the 17-goal star and Saints boss Ronald Koeman is also keen after his impressive debut Premier League season 47 Shares Charlie Austin is set to move on this summer – whether they beat the drop or not. We revealed yesterday that Newcastle have targeted the 25-year-old after his 17 goals for the struggling west London side this season. Southampton are also in the hunt for the £10million-rated marksman as boss Ronald Koeman is disappointed by the lack of goals from his frontline as the Saints push for the top four. QPR director of football Les Ferdinand admitted earlier this season that the Hoops face a battle to keep hold of Austin beyond the current campaign. While the player remains committed to the club, there is an acceptance that they may be powerless to stop him moving on. Rangers are third from bottom of the Premier League with five games to go and suffered a last-gasp defeat to Chelsea last Sunday but do not play this weekend. Their next game is at home to West Ham on Saturday, April 25.
It doesn't say we'll sell him whatever, just that we'll struggle to keep him. That's true of anyone who is playing well. I'd guess he'd stay on improved terms and a relegation release cause if we do survive.
I can't question that Uber. Although he doesn't seem too pleased with it recently! Not using Pantene obviously!
Not a surprise though is it - much as we would love to imagine that a player might want to stay at our club, there are many more pressures at play. Signing fees, increased wages, raised status/personal success/trophies etc. etc. There are few people who wouldn't move jobs if they were offered more money, especially since in this case the working conditions would be more enjoyable in terms of less relegation stress, winning more games. Most clubs are in this position now - the sad reality is that we are just further down the food chain - Southampton may nick Charlie, but Arsenal will nick Schneiderlin, ManU will nick Clyne and so on. As a fan, and from the heart I'd love him to stay. With him we would be in a much better position to attract the extra couple of players that would help consolidate our immediate future in the PL. Sadly the but head says he will almost certainly go - I just hope it's on the crest of a wave of goodwill on staying up and not with bitterness and frustration that will inevitably follow his moving onwards and upwards as we go in the other direction.

10 million what are these guys on! If Ross McCormack is an 11million player who has never played in the premier league, Austin gotta be worth double that.
That's an interesting point... we always hear of the 'English players premium' yet Austin, who is one of the top scorers in the PL and Chapionship/PL career is better than 1 in 2 is valued at such a conservative figure Since his 3 year deal expires on 1st August 2016 (or the day before) I'm guessing there is simply more pressure on us to sell so the value is significantly lower.
