Yeah, that's pretty racist. Sadly this kind of talk really doesn't help the case and he can play the victim.
Baffling. Is he an honest camel shagger? I see no mention of race, nationality or religion, so how can it be construed as racist????? Maybe he is offended by the bestiality reference? I hope that mag has a decent brief if Rollitts gets stuck into them. Another dissenting voice silenced (no great loss in this case).
Pretty strange to print it in your magazine , maybe they thought nobody would notice as nobody reads it
ARF! Not Nick's finest hour, he's posted a response in typical long-winded manner for anyone who's interested... We were asked to appear on BBC Look North tonight to answer a couple of "complaints." We declined the offer, but instead we issued this statement to them…. In reference to the accusations of "racist language in Tenfootcity" made by a couple of 'over-sensitive' people, this is our response to their unbalanced 'opinion' - which is due to them not considering the rest of the content of the magazine, as they rightfully should have done, if they wanted to form a 'balanced' opinion. Those comments are NOT Racist – just distastefully “funny” – stop being so sensitive and smile a little bit in life. We actually did it on purpose to see what sort of reaction we’d get, to that specific use of language. As the Editor (but NOT the writer of the article) … I’m an international Socialist myself and I’m anti-racist, anti-sexist, non-homophobic, etc, etc, etc,….. but there’s a big problem in our society at the moment and we wanted to address it. Hateful Racism is disgusting and should always be challenged but we seem to have got to a point where people feel like they’re not allowed to say anything due to the fear of being accused of “something.” The P.C. brigade have gone mad. It’s too controlling, it’s self-righteous and it’s alienating people. Humour has GOT to be allowed and not eradicated, but I agree it is a fine line – and I know we were (purposely) on a knife-edge there. It’s down to personal opinion what is considered to be “light-hearted” and what is considered to be offensive. I’m working-class, from a council estate in East Hull and I am used to all sorts of language that the sensitive P.C. brigade would actually faint at. They’re not living in the real world. Even my Mam and Dad would say things like “that friend of yours, the coloured girl, she’s lovely, when are you bringing her round again?” or (from my Dad) “that mate of yours is a shirt-lifter isn't he? Well he’s a really good lad anyway, I like him.” (The particular mate he was referring to is actually Gay and he just laughed when I told him!) This is normal stuff, it’s not offensive, or hateful, and it doesn’t hurt anyone – we’ve all got to stop being so bloody sensitive (on behalf of other people usually) – because it’s actually dividing society and it’s not doing us lot, on the left, any favours. (They all just start to regard us as P.C. Fannies –oh sorry…. I bet someone would accuse me of “misogyny” with that reference.) See what I mean? It’s all gone mad and we’ve just got to stop it. I think the people who jump on one or two light-hearted references, should read the rest of the magazine properly and concentrate on the more important articles like 'Hull Help for Refugees' and the history of 'Hull's Rock Against Racism' movement, (which I was part of actually) and also every other reference in our magazine to unity and non-discrimination. I would be the first to jump up and fight at the first sign of any language of genuine hate… but “Camel-Shaggers” is (only just) acceptable when used in a light-hearted manner. (Like "Sheep-Shaggers" or "Cod-Heads… which is often levelled at us but doesn't bother me in the slightest.) Let’s all start being sensible about this eh? – Otherwise people are just gonna start getting sick of us “liberal lefties” who don’t live in the real world and we’ll actually end up having the opposite effect to the one we desire. BE NORMAL! I actually think the BBC should be addressing the serious issues rather than pathetic 'non-stories' like this, like the fact that they perpetuate the myth that Jeremy Corbyn is a "weak" leader, with the biased language they continually use - when, in actual fact, he is the strongest Leader I have experienced in decades. Love, Peace & Solidarity from Tenfootcity Magazine. (P.S. There's nowt wrong with shagging camels anyway - as long as you get a good-looking one.)
Absolute bollocks. In the comment they've acquainted Egyptian men with shagging camels and that is straight forward racism. Or are they going to suggest that the fact he's Egyptian is completely coincidental to the comment?
He's basically just claiming it's a poor taste joke, rather than racism and everyone should lighten up.
