Why? I really don't get this with Clyne. He's not mouthed off at all. He may want to go, and have received signals he can, so is waiting for the prospective clubs in question to do something concrete and that is acceptable to Saints (or not). It's not his fault they haven't sorted themselves out to move firmly yet, so he's waiting to see if they're going to or not. He basically wants to know what his options are before committing either way.

Sounds sensible if anything.

Agreed. He's in the final year of his contract; he's well within his rights to evaluate his options thoroughly, and if the end result is that he gets a compelling offer elsewhere, thanks and good luck.

I also do not see the problem. This is football, and at least unlike Crystal Palace we are getting a fair price.

I won't boo him, but like all players I won't care how he gets on if he leaves.

Can anyone tell me why we could not have done the following (is it madness, have we not enough money? etc):
Bought early - Heaton, Trippier & Ings (OK maybe not Ings seeing as Liverpool set their sights so low) from Burnley and Austin from QPR, and Clasie/Krychowiak, with Juanmi and Cedric coming in later.
Then regardless of selling Morgan and/or Clyne we'd be in a great position (and they might be more willing to stay)
?

Because essentially you are asking every player and every other team to make their minds up in a hurry so we can get those guys... while we then take advantage of that to take our own sweet time deciding what to do.

If we want to have as many options and as much time to decide as possible, don't you think every other team, agent, and player wants the same thing?

Spot on. He has done nothing wrong.

Hes shown openness to staying, and openness to leaving, keeping his options open. Hes not mouthed off at all like Lovren did. Hes been respectful to Saints. He's said he would love to play Champions League football, and who can blame him? I would be willing to bet that he has conducted himself professionally to the club, probably telling them he would like to go if an acceptable offer comes in for him. Does anybody have any reason to believe otherwise?

Would any of us do any different if a big club came knocking?
