In terms of wages it sounds as if it might be about treble what he got here. No way of knowing if that is true of course but that's the buzz. As for length of contract he was on a year here which I think expired at the end of this season. Obviously it is much longer there.
For starters it's a three and half year contract. I don't know his wages but suspect it was nearer £500 than £1k.
p.s. I have absolutely no feel for what Argyle players get paid but I would have thought it would be well north of £500/week?
Why would it lyndhurst? He is a young lad just making his way when he signed on. Apparently despite our gates the playing budget is well down the league 2 order. Not my words but those of Adams and Brent. Being a stickler for balancing books and not paying over and above the 55% rule why would a youngster be on well north of that figure? Why do young players leave us at the drop of a hat? Greener grass perhaps.
As I said, I genuinely don't know. You can earn £500/week as a delivery driver-just thought a professional footballer (even in L4) would be on more than that.
I know somebody who knew Young very well. He wasn't on much of a contract and it was less than £500. Given he played as much if not more than Purrington you might be forgiven for expecting his contract to be worth more. Not so and he left. Released was the reason given. Not liking the treatment of what was on offer is another not announced.
Starnes recently referred to the club as "coming out of austerity". You seem to forget where we've come from Sensible and the mess that had to be cleaned up.
Administration is watched very closely by the FL...and what we can do or not do is governed by those clowns.....like being shackled comes to mind.
As a man who works short term consultancy contracts I would welcome a guaranteed £500 a week for a few years. I am happy that we got a fairly decent fee for him. Does anyone know if we had any add-ons (like Hourihane)?
yes but just compare £500/week with your potential earnings-assuming you are on a decent/normal daily consultancy rate.
True lyndy I can't argue with that. I suppose I really meant that for a young footballer (he is only 20) £500p/wk sounds about right - though I believe that this contract was his first senior one. It is an opportunity for him to prove he can play Championship football though so I don't blame him for leaving.
Thats two weeks wages for a gas fitter.. Good luck to him and hope he don't waste it like most 20 year olds would 500 a week is the old age pension now day's
Notdistant a question for you. Just how long are we going to make excuses about "just coming out of". We have paid off the debt and no longer have the problem. Since then we have had 2 games against a premiership side, been on tele both times. We have sold Purrington and have a sell on for Hourihane. When exactly will we have a spare penny to spend on the football bit then? When exactly will we show some ambition as a football club. Nobody is asking Brent to throw all of the money around or spend more than we have again.
Sound like my RN pension is worth more than a gas fitter but less than a L4 footballer! not sure how I feel about that.
There is no doubt there is a bit of money available, however, I think the club are considering their options i.e do they pay off the £800k they owe to the council, do they spend a bit on general refurbishment, do they spend money on players, or do they put it in the pot for the grandstand. My guess is that they will try and do a bit of all four which means there isn't that much to splash around. Am fairly sure we have spent a bit in the 'window' . i.e. our wage bill is higher than it was for the first half of the season.
