I find it odd that Romelu Lukaku would reject that contract offer by Everton, considering how much they were reportedly were offering him as well.
It's simple really, he has stated that he wants to play in the CL and probably feels that he won't get that at Everton in the short term.
Maybe he thinks he can get more? or maybe he knows Everton will sell him in the summer if he does not sign a new contract, then he gets the move without asking for it which might save him looking like a twat...but i dont think the fans are daft. Or maybe he just thinks he deserves to be playing a level up with CL footy a regular thing. EDIT: like SaintsAlive says.
Quite simple. Too much competition for Everton to get top 4 the way they operate. He wants champions league football and probably more money than Everton are offering.
It's not about the money imo, there was plenty on the table. He's openly said he wants CL for the last couple of years. He's also said he's happy at Everton. I think his agent has been playing games. Get a new contract out of us, with a back dated increase and signing on fees for player and agent, get us to agree a buyout clause that the agent knows someone will pay this summer, and bingo he's had a beano all-round. Only I think we've stood firm over the value of the buyout, hence his 99.9999% comments over the last few months, all designed to increase the pressure on Everton to relent. He coordinated that press release for 5pm last night as well, again to up the pressure. We'll see how it pans out.
You could just do a Liverpool and agree to the buy out clause, then if someone meets the price in the buyout clause, be dirty little cheating ****s, like the red half and reject it anyway. How Liverpool didnt end up in court over that whole affair for breach of contract is beyond me.
I was arguing with 2 Chelsea fans this morning who say £40-£50M I was saying more like £80 with his age and between 2 PL clubs.
