Sunderland forward Duncan Watmore has suffered a suspected cruciate knee ligament injury and is set to undergo surgery once scans have been taken. The 23-year-old was substituted shortly before half-time in Saturday's 2-2 home draw against Millwall. He has only played six times since returning from 10 months out with a torn ACL, also in his left knee. "We have to get the clinical results to find out exactly what he has done," said new Sunderland boss Chris Coleman. "We haven't got those yet, so everybody is looking at it and suspecting, but we don't know yet. "Of course we are worried because of what happened before but until we get a definite, we can't really say what is what. "Duncan worked so hard to get back. He's a real good player and an even better guy," he told BBC Sport. Watmore was one of three Black Cats players forced to go off in the game against Millwall. Marc Wilson and Jonny Williams will also miss Coleman's first game in charge on Tuesday night, against former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce's Aston Villa.
Hate to say it, but he's probably hit his ceiling. Worst injury in the game, players a rarely are the same again, most get on going problems with it and it's ended many a career. So sad for the lad.
Never mind for the season, that could be him done from football fullstop. Not many players make it back the same after 2 cruciate ligament injuries, just look at Danny Ings. I really feel for the lad. We just seem to keep getting shyte on all the time.
His pace is his main asset. Even if he does make a recovery he'll never be at the same standard he once was.
I've not seen the challenge which hurt him again but iirc we got nothing for it - was it a foul? Anyone got footage of it as I can't find it anywhere!!
I know we are **** and the club, not the fans, probably deserve it, but woar crikey we arnt alf avin some rotten luck guvna!
Actually I've just watched it back on the highlights (Between 3 and 4 minutes) - awful tackle from behind with no (or very minor) contact on the ball - scissor action from the defender - when you compare it to either of the free-kicks they scored from it's a million times worse than either of them. But it's in the box so obviously injuring players is OK!
Poor lad, this ain't good news for him given pace is his major asset. Thankfully he's a bright lad and will have the chance at a very good career outside of the game.
Will have to see how he is when he comes back. The lad will he absolutely gutted, really feel for him. You can't predict the future so I won't write him off yet like some, just hope the boy isn't feeling too ****.
Absolutely gutted for the lad - such a genuine guy as well. Hope he gets back to his best at some point - I know nobody will work harder to achieve it. Bart
Not good news Hope he comes through this it gets harder the second time He has had a few bad injuries to deal with
Gutted, a set back we could all do without , what rotten luck for the club, the supporters but most of all for the player himself.
