Some great choices there @lardiman, especially Edge of Darkness. Just out of interest, were you ever a fan of Baywatch ?
Strangely enough no, not really. There are very few American shows or series among my favourites. One obscure one (which I only saw because they were released on VHS at the local video shop) was Amerika - A mini-series set in an alternative future where the USA had been taken over by the Soviet Union. Starred Kris Kristofferson and Sam Neill among others. A bleak vision of a Communist dystopia with no happy ending. Absorbing drama I thought. On a lighter note I remember liking Soap and Benson, though I'm not sure I would enjoy them as much if I watched them now. However, none of the 'big hit' US comedy/drama series ever held my interest. Taxi, Cheers, Friends, Ally McBeal, Sex and the City - all just nonsense as far as I'm concerned.
When I was single Sunday consisted of several beers, a game of darts, Sunday lunch with my flatmates then The Persuaders. Tony Curtis and Roger Moore
Starsky and Hutch, Kojak, Columbo and Dukes of Hazard please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
I know it's off-topic but I do like a good British gangster movie; Get Carter Sweeney! (the first spin-off movie) Layer Cake are among my favourites. And that brings me to Daniel Craig - the best Bond in my opinion since Sean Connery. I liked Roger Moore, he has tremendous charm and elegant wit, but I thought he just lacked the ruthless edge that Connery showed as Bond. When he killed Professor Dent in Dr No that was cold-blooded murder. One of the most chilling moments in any Bond movie in my view. "That's a Smith & Wesson, and you've had your six."
I’ve also read all of the books - From Russia With Love is my favourite. Of the films - Connery - Diamonds are Forever “I’m Plenty O’Toole” - “Named after your father” Moore - Spy Who Loved Me Not a fan of the Irish bloke or Dalton. All of the Daniel Craig ones have been good. Roger Moore was closest to Ian Fleming’s vision of Bond, but it’s hard to beat the style of the Connery series.
Good for you. Bond was talking to Dent after the man had scooped his gun off the floor, aimed at Bond and pulled the trigger, only to find his gun was empty. Dent's gun was the Smith & Wesson. Bond then shot him dead with his PPK, which was fitted with a silencer.
If I had to take ten films to a desert island (yes, the island has electricity), I'd take the following: Shawshank Redemption French Connection (the first one) Carry On Camping The Day of the Jackal Stir Crazy Porrridge the Movie Gladiator Casino Royale Dumb and Dumber Watership Down
