Last night the Moderator overstepped the mark with the McCann thread. He gave a limp apology, fair enough'ish.
What is offensive? Born with a mild form of cerebral palsy down my left side I walk with a slight limp more noticeable when tired or drunk. At school when linford Christie was about and my name Chris I became known as limpfoot Chrissy ,you may laugh like most at school though most kids had the p#ss taken out of them. Where do we draw the line with offensive there's meant to be no offensive at football. But when bored at one of the games years ago I got into a debate with a head steward when someone shouted out you f#cking cripple. Why should I have to put up with that comment I said to the steward, he done absolutely nothing. You f$cking cripple was offensive to me so why no action?
Its the nature of offence these days - many people are very thin skinned, and keen to take offence on behalf of others. Any threads on here from today that are not Charlton or football or gambling related will be deleted.
Didn’t take personal offence to the thread -just thought to have a poll on how a little girls has died was totally inappropriate and fuking bad taste
That’s your opinion, which some shared & others didn’t. We all know where we stand now, so sports only on here from now on which is a shame in a way as @Ponders Revisited in particular posts some interesting stuff. Also, no more digs and bellyaching about other 606 posters & the frequency or otherwise of their posts on here and what they choose to raise. I think that is bad taste as well. I have had enough of it, as well as certain people’s “holier than thou, but I never support you when it counts” attitude.
In the years I have had the good fortune to be of your acquaintance I have been aware of your limp, but I have never thought to ask what the problem was as some people are easily offended.
It's all academic now anyway. Royston has made the rules crystal clear - sports & gambling only from now on. I would petition to allow a few exceptions for existing threads; Birthdays RIP Pubs No harm I think in having a thread about pubs & drinking (and good grub too perhaps), which is all very popular among football fans. Similar to the betting thread in that respect. And the Birthdays & RIP threads are kind of traditional. However, threads about women we may or may not fancy should definitely be banned. Amusing though some posts are on these threads, they give the forum a worse reputation than those crap 'confessions' movies from the 1970's.
The thread last night had me thinking back to ITTApologist, I do not recall Ivor posting anything like that.
It's pretty rare to get a thread on there which is not football related. Occasionally a cricket or golf thread appears when there is an event going on in those sports. The most 'controversial' threads that appear occasionally are ones about some horrible crowd trouble that has broken out at a match in Greece or Turkey or somewhere like that. And those threads usually only attract one or two replies. Reams did start up a betting thread a few weeks back but I don't think it caught on. Most ITTV members it seems are not much into betting or politics, they prefer to stick to the football by-and-large and Charlton in particular. IA would occasionally go on about wider issues, but there seems little appetite for that kind of thing over there. I can see the logic and sense of that position. It is our collective love for CAFC that has brought us together on forums. Talking about other subjects (particularly emotive or controversial ones that may divide us and make us think less of each other) is not going to be popular with everybody.
Controversial subjects including politics and current affairs cause upset, so are best avoided IMO. My comments were made tongue in cheek of course. People can post whatever they want - apart from Morris Dancing & dogging.
To come back to last night, the board has taken a battering today. Members have voted with their fingers in disgust
Call yourself a fecking Mod you piss taking penis...........my name is Maurice and I often like a fecking dance. Don't even get me started on dogging.
