Last time out Sunderland lost at Scunthorpe and Gillingham beat Lincoln. The clubs drew in the first game at the Stadium of Light, Aiden McGeady scoring for Sunderland and Olly Lee found the net for the Gills in a 1-1 draw. The winners are set to play AFC Wimbledon or Doncaster Rovers at home in the second round. Sunderland goalkeeper J.McLaughlin, defenders C.McLaughlin & Flanagan along with striker Benji Kimpioka are away on international duty. Gooch, Wyke, Lynch, Willis & Dobson are not available through injury. For this first round replay, Gordon Road blocks A, B and C will be the only blocks open to home fans (Medway Stand and Rainham End both open). Gills supporters who are season ticket holders in Gordon Road blocks D-J will, on this occasion, have to relocate to other areas of the stadium, due to the decision being made to close the Brian Moore Stand. Phil Parkinson: "We have got to stick together through this period" "I think it's (investment) a big step in the right direction, and it's an important one, because the club needs financial stability to go forward and I know that the owners were pleased with that investment, which certainly helps." "Joel Lynch, George Dobson and Jordan Willis won’t make the trip. Add that to Charlie Wyke, Lynden Gooch and the others who are away on international duty, we are light at the moment." "The youngsters will get the opportunity to come with us. There will be a number of U23 players included in the trip. The likes of Brandon Taylor and Jack Bainbridge will travel because we are light defensively. I am looking forward to seeing what they can do." Steve Evans: "Sunderland will be very tough. The reality is they are one of the giants in League 1, have a brilliant squad of players to call on plus a very talented Manager in Phil Parkinson." "I have no thoughts about the next round and what it might be. We will need to produce another top class performance to win on Tuesday, and we will need a very passionate support inside MEMS Priestfield Stadium to help us to deliver our objective." "Tommy O'Connor is still with the Republic of Ireland on International duty so that is unlikely. I am considering a few changes to the starting line up as I want us to be really fresh to match a Sunderland team who had no game on Saturday." "There is no doubt that what is being generated here is a real togetherness on and off the pitch.... after all, we are in this together!" Form: Team Selections: Sunderland : Burge, O'Nien, Ozturk, Taylor, De Bock, Hume; Power, Leadbitter; Maguire, Watmore, Grigg Subs: Patterson, Bainbridge, Mumba, McGeouch, McGeady, Sammut, Connelly Gillingham: Bonham; Fuller, Ehmer, Ogilvie, O’Connor; O’Keefe, Jones, Lee (Charles-Cook, 90), Byrne; Hanlan, Mandron Subs: Walsh, Hodson, Ndjoli, Charles-Cook, Pringle, Jakubiak, Tucker Betting: Home: 13/5 Away: Evens Draw: 23/10 My 2 pence: Hopefully we can turn things around in terms of team performance after the last few games. I've no idea about how this one will end - it really depends on how the players react. My guess is a 2-2 Draw and we lose the penalty shootout. Ha'way the lads
Morning RTB... Good post yet again... I have no interest in the fa cup this year, the league is far too important...
Just put £50 on Gillingham- it’s a feckin no brainier at 13/5. 2-0 is my prediction - we are awful!! Bart
For anyone that is coming down tomorrow and as mentioned in the OP, the away stand will be closed - so season ticket holders will be moved and you will be sectioned in the Gordon Road Stand (nearest section(s) to the away stand). Just follow the usual route on foot, you will be directed from there. There is no rain forecast tomorrow, but that section is covered.
Next May, tomorrow night will be the occasion we'll look back on fondly, in more ways than one, when we lift the cup at Wembley.
I can never understand wanting safc to lose as a safc supporter. That’s just me though, I want safc to win every game we kick off.
Just got back after a long weekend away and saw your team RTB. Isn't O9 suspended after his red card at Scunthorpe or have I missed something like we've won another appeal?
canny stadium, and the legend who was Brian moore was a director there. They say Lincoln who the Gills beat on saturday were appalling, so we must have a chance, O nien is ok the leasing.com match red card does not count. We need a run in the f a cup for financial reasons, and we might get the mags ! in round 3 or Man u or Spurs who we could beat this season.
just seen this and it would appear that PP is clearing the fixture list of all the cup competitions after tomorrow to concentrate on the league. home win by three goals unfortunately.
