Do you think Lewis could do an entertainment piece of a similar nature? It just would not happen. Two very different people.
My original comment was only a bit of light hearted flippancy. I suppose it was Nige’s lugubrious delivery that made me think of him specifically.
Don't worry. realise it was light hearted banter, as was this exchange. Lots of chatter about Lewis and Ferrari. I am 50/50 on it at best. That will put Lewis up against Charles at a time when Lewis's reaction time is on the wane and Charles is on the climb. Lewis will of course take the route he thinks offers him another championship. Charles has shown that Seb has never mastered the Turbo era, that he is still no different to when he was beaten by Daniel. So, perhaps Charles will be tested by a driver of greater skill. Ferrari will need to be competitive in the first half of next year for Lewis to make the jump, if they are, the chances of the Lewis switch is increased. This might of course be good news for Valtteri, making him an interesting choice to keep him at Mercedes. I actually think we are going to see a new Valtteri now the marital pressure is off, it must have had an impact. I think RBR won't want to lose Verstappen. Next year will be interesting on many fronts. There is no guarantee that Lewis will win a 7th.
I agree with pretty much all of this, but I’ve never understood the appeal to him of going to Ferrari. I know they say every driver wants to drive for them one day but I can’t see why he would think he could win championships there. They have been the graveyard of a few drivers over the years, most notably Alonso. They area still the worst underachievers in F1. I wonder if he knows something we don’t about Mercedes and whether they will be in F1 in 2021. Would be interesting to see who Merc would replace him with if they are still there. Russell is testing for them. It feels like they are all waiting to see which scenario plays out.
Hamilton with one final challenge? I personally think his comments over the weekend were revealing - “its the first time they’ve said something nice about me”. You also have to remember and please forgive me for saying this, but Italy has some horrific racism and I’m not sure Hamilton would go down a storm for the fan base. That said, him going there and being the first (?) black Ferrari driver would really make a statement and pioneer a pathway for people in the future perhaps. My gut feel says he stays with Mercedes for as long as they are serious about F1.
I lived in Milan for 4 years, in the last century. I was not aware of racism being any different to the UK during my time there. That said racism seems different today. We had a classmate who was coloured (in the UK), he was fully accepted and we only ever expressed a curiosity about where he came from and only at the beginning. That was no different to interest we showed in someone from New Zealand. I have never seen colour, nor do my children, it quite simply does not define someone but I honestly never noticed any prolific racism when living in Milan. I think Lewis gets Boo'ed because he beats Ferrari.
