And from the BBC: What could be next? BBC News reports that the UK Government could ban mass gatherings from as early as next week in a shift in policy to ease pressure on emergency services. Currently, the Grand National is still scheduled to go ahead on 4 April. Attention will now turn to the summer. Uefa has called an emergency meeting for Tuesday at which the possibility of postponing Euro 2020 by one year will be an option discussed. And what about the world's biggest sporting event - the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games? Japan's Olympics minister has conceded that the Games could be postponed until later in the year if the coronavirus outbreak makes their scheduled start on 24 July unfeasible.
Tennis will be interesting if a lot of the season is cancelled, because the yearly points may hurt some of the seeds if they lose a lot e.g Rafa on clay
So the Cheltenham Festival had a last day crowd of 68,859. Yet all football matches, including a random Partick Thistle vs Alloa Athletic (last home attendance 2,122) gets the chop. Sheer lunacy by our bloody incompetent powers that be.
Cancelling an Olympics is a massive deal and let's face it, it's not going ahead. Perhaps postponed to later in year but good chance this could drag on or re-surface again then. What a nightmare for organisers. Eye-watering costs involved too but to put health and lives at risk is unforgivable.
To be the voice of reason/pessimism, nobody, anywhere in the world is closer than 12 months from a vaccine. We might see tests in humans before then, but the journey from "promising results in mice" to "mass produced vaccine" is a very long one. Disappointing really that NEN are trying to generate hope off the back of this.
Euro 2020 POSTPONED for year until 2021 due to coronavirus after Uefa hold crisis talks. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/sports/euro-2020-postponed.html
And nightmare for competitors, years of structured training to peak at exactly the right time, only for it to become the wrong time.

I don't think they were. I think they were stopped sooner. I am pretty sure I got the swine flu when I came back from uni. I felt sick as a pig for a bit and was in bed for a few days but recovered
I don't believe there was ever a SARS vaccine, which given it uses the same receptor as Covid to enter cells, is a bit of a concern. There's new approaches to creating vaccines since then though, so hopefully something pays off.
It is too early to decide whether to cancel the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, says World Athletics chief Lord Coe. The International Olympic Committee has said the Games could still begin on 24 July despite the coronavirus pandemic causing other events to be cancelled. Coe told BBC Sport: "Let's not make a precipitous decision when we don't have to four months out." What planet is he on.FFS cancel
