if anything it’s further proof that this clown does not understand football he can say ‘I’m a fan’ all he wants to convince us that this is all about football.
Has football been the opium of the masses, since religion died? It was for me....but no more. I fear that my disconnect is longer term than I may have thought.
My disconnect started when Poland knocked England out of the world cup and the English defender (Hunter if I remember) rugby tackled the Polish striker as he broke away to look like scoring. Since then I have kept football slightly at arms length because I judged the disappointment was crazy for something that was supposed to be fun. I can still get worked up by football but most of the time I remain cool. What really annoys me now is what we have just watched with Jose (Boring football) I am here for for entertainment not your ****ing record Jose.
Now this has been put to bed, I can admit that there is one aspect of the last couple of days that I have enjoyed - The outrage of other fans (particularly of a certain other London club based in Stratford), that we were even included.
Most of the Pl board couldn’t quite decide what pissed them off the most The whole idea or us getting invited
Frankly I have no idea why The Sheikh Mansour Team were invited, considering the other eleven teams have played in the Champions League final at some point...
I suspect that the Corona chaos has seriously damaged the repayment grand plan on new WHL, more than we realise. The on-pitch slump from the PL top 4 is just compounding things. The 'Duke brothers' wager on THFC is IMHO done An altruistic Joe Lewis could slash the debt burden from his own wealth, as a loan with the loosest of T+Cs (0% APR, repayment on an annual "as best you can" basis etc) .
I hope I'll be forgiven for posting this - my Prediction League prediction and song for tonight on this thread as well. (I'm predicting 1-0, with Bale the scorer, by the way.) I wanted to give it wider circulation and join in this discussion, as it says what I'm thinking: Events of the past 48 hours have managed to obscure the very important midweek fixture facing us tonight. Welcome to the harsh and unforgiving world of football management, Ryan – and the very best of luck with it: you’re a Spur and you know you are! With all the stuff going on (not least at WHL) my head turned towards Leonard Cohen (yes, I know, I was that miserable!). So I took the chance to take a look at the news as well as the match. For 24 hours, my support for Spurs hung in the balance. It remains damaged. But I’ll try to get the best out of it while it’s there. CLOSING TIME Ah we're drinking and we're dancing ’cos the ESL’s not happening and belated football wisdom’s running high. And my own beloved Tott’nam (“Oh the fans! We’d quite forgott’n’em!”) are realising why their kite won’t fly. And, though they played the game like bankers, they were just some greedy w*nkers who tried to fiddle something like a crime. All the fans’ clubs told them to f*ck off and the players dared to speak out lots, so the plan was found, but quickly lost - there’s still hell to pay when the hooha stops: it's CLOSING TIME! Yeah the fans’ clubs etc We were Poch fans, and romantic, but our Dan was going frantic and the ENIC crew were crying, "Where's the cups?" And the trophy shelf was naked and it seemed we’d never make it - a volcano that was waiting to erupt. So we started then to stagger slipping down the PL ladder till our Poch’s style seemed sadly less sublime. And I swear it happened just like this: a misplaced pass, a glaring miss; the fans who loved him budged and flinched, and with a speed that made us wince came CLOSING TIME! and I swear it happened etc So ENIC did their duty but Mourinho’s not the remedy: he was in it for the trophy haul and I bit my tongue politely there were some thought he’s a god (not me!) - declaring, declaring, declaring that his style was good football. So he managed Spurs and made a mess and I’m glad he’s gone - there's nothing left but sorrow and a sense of wasted time. Now I feel I’ve seen the Spurs get wrecked and I really care what happens next! Feels like freedom (an escape from death!) and what we have just seen, I guess: HIS CLOSING TIME! ’Cos I feel I’ve seen etc Yeah we're drinking and we're dancing Ryan Mason’s really happening and we’ll see a new beginning Wednesday night, when my own beloved Tott’n’am play to show just what they’ve gotinem! And we’ll even see the back four keeping tight! Then I’ll lift my glass to the dawn of truth when we play with zeal and we trust in Youth: attacking play is truly not a crime! And then Bale scores once (Son goes close twice) - it’s a win for the Spurs as the Saints get sliced! So the team head back to PL heights - and we shall celebrate tonight - Till CLOSING TIME! And then Bale scores once etc It’s CLOSING TIME Oh the fans’ clubs, etc It's CLOSING TIME! So the plan was found etc It's CLOSING TIME! I swear it happened etc It's CLOSING TIME! The fans who loved him, etc It’s CLOSING TIME! So he managed Spurs, etc It’s CLOSING TIME! But I fear the Spurs could still get wrecked By Mourinho’s work and the Super Six.
The young kids are no longer interested unless their parents take them. Hopefully professional football will die, burn, then rise from the ashes like a phoenix.
I happened to glimpse the Twitter feed for Murdoch's Hate Comic try and rile up fans against the owners of Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal - and only Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal - earlier today First of all, **** off you red-topped **** rag, and that mob you riled up can **** off too Secondly, this shows just how scared The Murdoch Empire is of Premier League clubs realising they don't need the mummified toad's right bollock, because that is exactly what the ESL demonstrated as clubs didn't think twice of leaving the Tucker Carson behind if the money was there to do so, which is why Sky are always such petulant children when somebody else gets in on their grift be it BT or Amazon or whoever Clubs don't need you, Rupert, but you sure as **** need them as the thought of a Premier League without the golden geese you enabled for decades (plus Spurs...) scares the **** out of you, and don't you dare forget it
Do you think there will any sanctions against the Prem 6 clubs , personally I would like to see it against the owners and not the clubs because it appears that the clubs , players, managers and staff were kept in the dark as were the fans , if there was to be a financial penalty for the clubs the knock on would most likely be felt by those who could least afford it like wise with points reduction the players and fans are penalised Personally a public flogging or the walk of shame a la Game of Thrones would be fitting for the bunch of greedy bastards but they can keep their pants on so they don't scare the kids
The obvious issue is there shouldn't be a blanket punishment as the clubs weren't equal in their plotting, as Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal were the movers and shakers so would be expected to face a harsher punishment ...and if anyone expects The FA to do just that, I have a villa on Atlantis to sell you
Who wants to ask the obvious question about, if we had different owners, would they have signed up to the ESL? The answer may not fit in with the agenda of most of the people there...
I think that most of the current owners of Premier League clubs would've done it, which is rather damning for the whole thing. We seem to have been dragged into it to make it impossible for the remaining clubs to vote the Super League teams out. Join us or be left behind and we'll just ask another side to make up the numbers. The clubs involved didn't expect anything like this level of backlash, which tells it's own story.
