He's a decent driver that works hard and learns/improves as time goes by. But he's not the natural talent of a Max/Charles/Lewis. Nowhere near.
The big disadvantage of the limited testing seems to be showing more this year than previous. They went from 6 days pre season to just 3 days. It does seem to be hurting the seasoned drivers and the noobs alike. It almost seems like FIA need to reassess pre season testing especially for noobs. Interesting that Toto said just tweaks coming for Mercs this year!!!! Wonder if it's just playing mind games with Red Bull or the budget cap taking effect?
David Croft on sky mentioned the budget cap , good point . Also someone mentioned that merc had struggled to get to grips with a new aspect to the engine. And that now they had got to grips with it , they are more confident of battling it out with RBR ? Who knows .
I bet Norris was pleased about the red flag . He had asked if he could take a nature break and the team said no .
Ferrari started nicely- lots of chatter about RB and Merc having a lot more to come, but Ferrari were going well on every tyre too so maybe they can fight at the front after all. I really hope so, be nice to mix it up a bit for Monaco.
It is looking like it might be a very interesting quali session. I think it's close between a few teams and all it takes is for a bit of traffic on a hot lap and it's game over. Looking forward to Monaco (maybe just quali) - didn't think I would say that!!!
This is shaping up to be a very tasty qualifying. Sainz is looking very quick, but I have a feeling Charles might just pull something special out of the bag. And you'd be mad to think Max can't shake out a special time too. Looking forward to this.
Ferrari confirming they are in the mix then for Monaco. Really hope they can push the big two hard and get themselves on pole- Max might have that bit more in the tank. Not sure what to make of Mercedes- sandbagging or are they just struggling on this type of circuit?
I'm not sure Merc are sandbagging as Monaco needs speed building lap by lap. I think Merc may be on 3rd row!
On the bbc earlier someone said that the merc strategist said where rbr have an advantage is their ability to get heat into the tyres . Critical at a place like this if you want pole .
Norris has again beat Danny Ricc- the Aussie hasn’t yet settled into that new car has he. As I’ve said before though, what a driver to have up your sleeve for when he does dial it in. He’s shown speed in every car in the end so later in the season he may really show his worth in the fight for Constructors P3.
