People forget this, we do not win by selling Kane, we will only do it to comply with the players wishes. The arrogance of the media and City and their 'entitled' mentality is deserving of contempt. They have mine.
I read somewhere yesterday that the deal is pretty much done but that we've asked City to keep schtum so that we can get our own business over the line without being charged a premium due to selling Harry.
Tbh, if he is sold then ALL of the money needs to be reinvested in the squad otherwise things will get ugly on match days at the lane. Selling him is going to put massive pressure on Nuno and the team as things will get really ugly if we start badly with no kane. And we face City, Wolves Watford, Chelsea, Palace and Arsenal in the first 6 games.
It looks like our new DoF is making the right moves in the transfer market already. Vlahovic may be worth a punt but whoever comes in, our business needs to be done early and I'm hoping Nuno will blood some of our better youngsters too
Romero/Tomyasu/CB Watch Oh boy... Romano's latest tweet, which are starting to look like Dominic Cummings' tweet chains, claims this is Paratici's plan Plan A: Sign Romero for €55m Plan B: Sign Tomiyasu for €18m, Milenkovic for €15m, and Kurt Zouma for €25m Not the word "and", not "or" Sounds like Romano's covering his backside for all possibilities so nobody can call him out for being wrong about something to me... Romero Watch. Again. Di Marzio, meanwhile, is claiming that Romero has already agreed terms on a contract until 2026, with an option to extend it to 2027
Tbh I don't know anything about European footballers so have no idea how good the signings are. But it does seem that we have a plan A,B and C rather than putting all our eggs in one basket and ending up with a last minute panic buy, last minute disappointment or bugger all!
It just goes to show how badly we've been functioning in the transfer market hitherto and what a difference someone decent in the DoF position can make.
Winks wants to fight for his place, apparently . he'd have to become a completely different player to stand any kind of chance
Yeah I’m really excited about him. I’m not expecting miracles in his first season but I think a solid run in the ECL with the aim of establishing himself in the Prem team could well be on the cards. Even though Nuno’s football was painfully boring at Wolves, he did like Adama causing havoc down the wing and so I hope he gives Gil (and the others) that sort of licence to do similar here. Having said that I think he could have a long term future as a number 10, if I’m not wrong David Silva started off as a winger and then moved more centrally and I feel Gil has a lot of similar characteristics to a young David Silva. Been a while since we’ve signed a young player where there’s genuine hope he can go on to be a top player. Buzzing to see him in action.
How early is early? It’s august next week too late for me already…where is the settling in period? as usual I think we will go into the season half baked and our first 5/6 results will have us all frustrated at the timing of our summer activity, always the same with us as we look like a team who needs time to ‘gel’.
I think everyone has been slow this year; hangover from the Euros and some players at the Olympics, maybe?
Yeah strange how slow it’s been this summer. Think that’s down to many factors. The end of the window will be chaotic this year
I think selling players was (still is) the main thing for us this window but obviously with the Euros and Olympics it’s been tough to work around them. Don’t get me wrong we need additions too and the two we’ve made so far I’m happy with but there really is so much deadwood that’s been weighing us down for too long that getting rid of them has to be the priority in order for us to begin moving forward. I think a lot of our incomings are going to be based on money we raise from sales too so it’s even more imperative to ship some out. Foyth and Toby’s inevitable departure will cover the cost of Gil. Gazzaniga, Rose and Lamela’s departures have freed up a decent bit of wages, which will easily cover Gollini’s loan (future fee is next summer’s problem). Binning the likes of Sanchez, Winks, Sissoko and Aurier will give us the funds to cover the potential Romero deal with hopefully a bit of change left over to put towards another CB or Tomiyasu/ RB. I’m optimistic Don Fabio knows what he’s doing, lot of pressure on him that his signings pay off of course but he seems to be doing his best at both telling players to basically “do one” (whereas in the past Levy/ Hitchen seemed to have separation anxiety with some players) whilst also working day and night on trying to sort incomings.
Rumours abound that this is tied in with a stadium/training ground sponsorship deal with Qatar Airways. It could explain why we're suddenly flashing the cash around....if we're not selling Kane? Or it could be a load of bullshit.
