Ah the never ending search for perfection. Helped no doubt by armchair keyboard punditry. Not that I am saying I will cease making comments on forums about my football team. Its just if a poster says black someone will pop up and say white. Its very rare for the majority to agree particular point of view. Perhaps we agreed about JurrasicPark, and Donald. Then of course a season or two ago most of us thought Wyke useless ( he was) but he then bangs all those goals in last season. Although if facts change opinions can change. Certainly the start this season has been good, if the main bone of contention is the best way to see games out when leading.
We should be putting games to bed earlier but as has been said our goal conversion doesn't tally up with our performances and chances created. Stewart has scored 5 goals, so he's doing his bit. How many goals and assists do McGeady and Gooch have this season?
It would be a win every time but why do these need to be the two options? I'd rather we continued on the offensive and won a comfortable 3 points than choose to go into defensive mode and let a 2 goal lead slip when the game has looked like it's been put to bed. If we are tiring and the opposition are able to keep going then that's something LJ needs to address because there's no reason why any team in this league should be fitter than us, especially with the facilities our players have access to.
That's what I thought when I saw it although Wright shouldn't have stepped up to leave a gaping hole behind him.
He was caught between a rock and a hard place. If he stayed put then his man was in the clear. I think from looking at the footage he was expecting Winchester to track his man
This is what happened last season when the defensive line up kept changing ... .... it creates brief moments of confusion that can make a big difference.
Just see it differently mate. If we do continue pushing on and then concede through defensive gaps, it will be criticised. If we defend and concede, it is criticised. I’d much rather we take our chances and the game is put to bed before the last 20. It shouldn’t come down to hanging on if we take our chances and Saturday was no different. But if our forwards aren’t scoring those chances the opposition gains some confidence. It lets them push on to maybe try to get one. It’s really easy to play with a hung ho style when you have literally nothing to lose. Much more difficult when you have a lot to lose. that said, I can’t blame Johnson for their second goal. It was one if the softest penalties you will ever see. I saw Ronaldo taken out 3 times in the box yesterday far worse and the ref and VAR gave nothing. We wouldn’t have got a penalty fir it, that I can absolutely guarantee. The player was never getting the ball (which I believe is one of tye new rules on shirt tugs etc) and the ref once again wanted to make a name for himself. He’d have been bragging to his mates in the pub on Saturday night about it!!
No I thought the same (and others have said it too) But I do also think Wright left too much space in behind. As the experience of the back line he should know better. in a similar way to the goal we conceded against my, there were a number to blame (in that case it was Burge who bore the brunt when, in reality, Neill, Doyle and Flanagan could all have done a lot better)
We're all armchair pundits man. Please don't stop putting up your opinions just because you think someone will disagree. It's what a forum like this is all about. I have my opinions on things, but there's always someone on here who will present another point of view and I welcome that......it makes me think, and stimulates the debate. What this forum can provide is discussion about our wonderful, wonderful club, primarily without the sarcastic abuse, sadly prevalent in other places,...and long may it continue.
He only has one assist, mate. He's scored 2 penalties. Gooch has one assist. No goals from open play, neither. It's their jobs to score or/and assist goals. That's primarily their jobs as inside forwards. Neither are doing that, so far, imo.
The key phrase, in all of this, is 'nothing to lose' which means the losing team may as well throw everyone up, including sometimes the keeper as time ticks away ... ... the team, defending the lead, obviously can't match that. So the balance will inevitably shift to one degree or another. We just have to hold the ball and try to work it up to the forwards who can waste time ... ... if we were a shytehouse team, like Wycombe, we'd have won that game
Our style of play has changed hugely and more assists are coming from Embleton and Dan Neil as we focus more on playing through the lines than last season's more obvious wing play Embleton has what? 2 goals and at least 4 assists that I can think of. Neil has 1 goal and a couple of assists. It's refreshing to be honest
I agree. Wright had to step forward in case of the pass to his man and Winchester should have followed Morton. Quite clever movement from the Fleetwood forwards. We need to be sharper.
TBF the logical thing to do, if you're losing, is to bring on an attacker ... ... if that doesn't work out it doesn't mean it was the wrong thing to do.
Exactly. Bring someone on who's going to take them back a little. We have pace now with Broadhead and Dajuka.....let's use them to stop opposition having their whole half to play in.
