Sunderland host Charlton in the Skybet League One Last time out Sunderland beat Crewe and Charlton lost to Accrington. The Black Cats won 4-0 at Crewe, with Aiden McGeady and Leon Dajaku both returning after injury. Corry Evans is recovering from a calf problem, Niall Huggins is out for 3 months with a back problem, and Elliot Embleton remains suspended for this game. Charlton boss Nigel Adkins is fighting to save his job at Charlton after Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat to Accrington Stanley. Charlton are now four points adrift from safety in League One following a fifth defeat in eight matches. Addicks owner Thomas Sandgaard was at Tuesday’s game at The Valley after flying in from the US and there were chants from unhappy home fans for Adkins to be sacked. Update: Adkins has now left the club and Johnnie Jackson is appointed as caretaker for Saturday. Lee Johnson: "As he (Pritchard) went to break, one of their lads just sort of yanked him on the top of the head and it was a bit of a whiplash-type of injury. He was really, really, stiff at half-time and we tried to get some work into him but he only lasted 15 minutes or so in the second half.” "I don't think it'll be too bad, it'll just be a case of a muscle relaxant and trying to get the physio to get his fingers into it." "We were able to take McGeady off and look after him which was good, because he's going to have to go again on Saturday. He hasn't done loads of training recently, so it was important that we just took care of him." Nigel Adkins: (before he was sacked) “I have got thick skin. I want to be here, that is an important thing, and for me it is how I can keep putting ourselves in a position to learn from mistakes which are happening because you’ve got to. “We all know the reality of football. I will put that to one side and keep doing my job to the best of my ability. “What has happened has happened. You can’t change it. All that you can do is come in and work very hard. “I can understand when things are going against us, it is a challenge, and someone has got to bear the brunt of the frustration, but what you do is have belief in yourself and you learn about yourself even more, you learn about the people that you are surrounded with – and how they respond to it.” Match Appointments: Referee: DARREN DRYSDALE Assistant Referees: Wayne Grunnill and Ivan Stankovic Fourth Official: Declan Bourne Team Line ups Sunderland: Hoffman; Cirkin, Doyle, Flanagan, Winchester, O’Nien, Neil, Pritchard, McGeady, Stewart, O’Brien. Subs: Burge, Hume, Younger, Wright, Wearne, Dajaku, Harris Injured: Willis, Alves, Huggins, Broadhead, Gooch Suspended: Embleton (2 games) Charlton: MacGillivray, Matthews, Lavelle, Famewo, Souaré, Leku, Gilbey, Watson, Blackett-Taylor, Stockley, Washington. Subs: Pearce, Jaiyesimi, Gunter, Davison, Watson, Henderson, Injured: Forster-Caskey Betting Odds: Sunderland 8/13 Charlton 4/1 Draw 11/4 My two pence: Another good team performance at Crewe and a lot better game to watch, it was great to see Stewart back on the scoresheet and another great goal from Dajaku. Charlton have 1 more point than Crewe and sit 3rd from bottom of the league, but I'm expecting a close game. I’m going for a 2-1 home win Live Stream (Overseas fans) https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/live-video Ha’way the Lads
Fancy us strongly here. A win would leave us in a cracking position before some tough away games in the coming weeks.
RTB Yep, if possible keep unchanged side, although I suppose one or two of the injured could be back? Looking forward to it!
Looking forward to getting back to the SoL for this one. 3-1 for me. Rossco, Pritchard and Onien. Great thread as usual. Preview podcast with one of their fans...... https://aca.st/7de8ea
Looking forward to this It’s the kind of game we have messed up on last few seasons Expected to win end up with a draw however the club has a whole different feeling about it this season Think they come out of the traps fired up for 10 mins with the manager situation but we’ll have too much for them I’ll go for 2-0. Saying that Depends how their players react if they down tools could be a big win
Good thread always look forward to it,here’s hoping they don’t get a boost with the manager departing but any case im hoping for a 3-0 win with a solid performance at the back of it
Bruce in as new manager ? I think when they beat up here April that was the start of the terrible run, but don't think that will happen this season. cannot take anything for granted though 1-0 will do me, we might not have a home league game for a month after this, which is ridiculous, we should have had the Oxford game re-arranged by now, wigan play next week. Anyhow lets keep our great home run going.
It will be interesting to see how they react to the dismissal of Adkins, we should have too much for them over 90 minutes , but it could be close game as they usually are with Charlton, we owe them big time and 3 points will go a long way to excise the memory of that play-off final. OaU.
Huge relief at the sacking of NA, the football has been dire. When we play you we'll find out if the players are really as bad as they have been under Adkins. Before he got sacked I expected you to run up a cricket score. Might still happen, but hey-ho, it should be interesting.
They got away with murder in both the home and away game last season. We absolutely battered them away and missed sitters and went on to draw, then should have been a couple of goals ahead by the time they scored their first in the home game. Again, wasteful albeit their keeper had the game of his life. We owe them one.
Charlton a bit of a bogie team, time this was put to bed, home win with a bit to spare. Great thread again RTB
Awesome thread RTB. Fully updated after they lost their manager. Our response to losing at Portsmouth has been first class and I expect the winning streak to continue on Saturday. They may have had a managerial change, but the league table doesn't lie this far into the season. They might be wanting to prove a point to their caretaker manager, but at the same time their confidence will still be low and we need to exploit that by getting at them early. If we get the first goal, their lack of confidence and our huge support will crush them. I think the 100% home record will continue with anything from a 2-0 to 4-0, depending on if we convert our chances. With some of the teams below us playing each other, this is a big chance to pull away..... and I'm confident we will.
I expect us to show this bogie club this is a load of bollocks. Hoping for a solid win and more goals from across the team. Keep the pressure on and momentum building
https://www.soccerstats.com/h2h_selection.asp?league=england3 Stumbled across this stat site where you can do a match comparison between the two teams in a match. If the link has worked it should give you the match up for Saturdays game. Just checked, you have to select the two teams on the first page.
