My thoughts exactly on the Tino situation. You can’t play an 18 year old every single game and not expect an injury.

I’ve had a meniscus tear and the doc said it is usually caused by over-exercising or not warming up/down properly. Recommended me 6 months to make a recovery, but it’s never fully healed. Never had surgery on it though so maybe that’s the ticket for Tino.

Also (without knowing anything about you) you are probably not an elite athlete or were not maybe as fit as Tino? So maybe he can recover quicker. I could be totally wrong, and apologise if you were.

Tino will have access to the best possible medical and surgical care, and the best possible rehabilitation facilities. Even so, if he has a meniscus tear that needs surgery, it will be months rather than weeks before he plays again.

All well and good saying Ralph played Tino too much but I expect the clubs doctors had cleared him to play and he was physically fit and able.

These decisions aren't made based off of "I reckon he has played a lot so let's rest him". Every decision with regards to fitness/injury and game time will be made using the vast data the club have on each player.

Not too sure you can blame Ralph for playing an 18 year old week in week out if the data suggested he was capable.

I wonder what has happened to Kayne Ramsay?, is he just another of the long line of seemingly future bright hopes that has fallen by the wayside?, it's over 3 years since his debut against Citeh in the PL.

Absolutely right about the club doctors, but Ralph picks the team. Even if Tino kept getting the green light, you still need to be cautious with youngsters. And we had Perraud just warming the bench.

Yeah I was very fit at the time; in my twenties, running marathon distances regularly and doing taekwondo five times a week.

Weirdly the doc said that my tear was too small to operate on. With a meniscus, so he said, sometimes a bigger tear is better.

Sure if I’d had a Prem football club’s resources could have fixed it though.

Yeah I was thinking of coming and revising my “I hope Ralph hasn’t broken him” comment from earlier

It will be more on the medical team. And even elements on the player himself who might have felt something but wanted to keep playing

You do but Ralph also needs to prioritise results. If he had benched Tino for a rest and we then lost due to an error from Perraud for example everyone would criticise Ralph for benching arguably our player of the season despite the fact he had been cleared fit by medical staff to play (not that we would know that level of detail).

Considering we had such a bad season with injuries last season, I’m really surprised that Ralph played Tino so relentlessly.

Doctors can’t foresee every little potential issue. Tino needed a rest, it was pretty obvious.

Better to have a player able to play for 75% of the season by resting him from time to time, than for 50% of the season til he is burned out. We had for many games last season’s player of the season on the bench (KWP) or a brand new £12m signing (Perraud). Only an idiot would have blamed Ralph for resting Tino.

A week or more ago Ralph said that Tino’s injury was the same as the one that sidelined Vestergaard for a longish period.
I hope he gets it sorted and comes back as good as he was.
Just throwing this into the mix. He was one of the most fouled players in the league, so a potential for the injury to have been caused/aggravated as a result of an illegal challenge putting stress on the knee?

Yes, I had a meniscus tear a couple of years ago - cartilage doesn`t self-repair like muscle or sinew, so keyhole operation is the only way to fix it (remove the torn bit). It`s quite a simple procedure, but it isn`t good long term as the meniscus helps separate the upper and lower leg bones, and once the cartilage is gone, its gone. I wasn`t allowed to run for 6 weeks, although I was walking gingerly the day after the op.

Same year, two years ago and rather painful for 6 months. Doctors said that there was no point operating as it wouldn’t help, they would only go in if there was debris in the join which there wasn’t so leg up, knee brace and painkillers

I’ve had the same injury as Tino’s. How ever it’s usually when you ignore the lead up signs that makes it serious. About the same time of year too. I had an operation at Nuffield hospital and was walking same day as op. ( Although was not that popular with the surgeon) I believe it took me around 4 months before I was able to play normally.
I have a feeling we may not see that young man agin this season, especially if they have to operate.
Good luck to the young man. He should get over it in time maybe see him next season.
Good hard fought game by the boys yesterday. Was pleased their hard work paid off. Coys

Ok, still get the occasional twinge if I twist on it too much but I’ll survive. Not really had a good run out on it due to the pandemic though

Maybe contractually we had to play Livramento a certain percentage of games or pay a penalty? A bit like Minamino.
