Sunderland AFC can confirm that Corry Evans has suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament. The midfielder will undergo surgery, and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season after picking up the injury during Sunday’s win over Middlesbrough. We’re right behind you, Skipper. good luck with your recovery Cory
Bad one. Given his age and previous injuries. Be a tough one to come back from and to maintain the level of this league. Best of luck to him mind.
Out of contract end of season. I don't think he'll get a new one so that's probably the last we see of him in a red and white shirt.
We need the option of an experienced center midfielder , currently we now have none . Hopefully we get someone in as cover
The wage difference between the 2 will be considerable though and I think the expectation was that Willis' career was over. Evans might be done at this level given his age and the extent of the injury, but he'll have something to offer for someone else. He'll have done already over his career in earnings as well. The injury is a huge shame though, he's been absolutely key to our revival but I'm not sure we see him in red & white again.
It's a shame we're not pursuing this one. Seems like he'd have been an ideal replacement for Bailey Wright. A good age where he has experience, but also young enough to keep improving. I'm sure we'll find a French U20 international who is class instead though.
Just another obstacle for these young lads to overcome this season will have given them more experiences that 3 or 4 usually would, with the amounts of ups and downs manager changes etc, that being said they’ve passed every test so far and i back them to pass this one too
Maybe on reduced terms or something like that? He's been good for us, but we're not a charity (I know that sounds harsh but we can't him taking a place on the wage bill that stops us signing someone else)
I'd be bringing Matete back. We are a Dan Neil injury away from relying on 3 untried kids in midfield
Ffs absolutely gutted for the lad, we need some experience in midfield if he is out until next season.
Personally I trust that the recruitment has brought these players in because they are good enough. And I don’t buy in to the ‘experience’ thing, don’t think it matters at all, Neil and Michut did superbly on Sunday
