Do any of you have any funny candidates running for this? It is, of course, the silliest idea for something to be voted on ever had - well done for introducing policing by tabloid consensus, by the way But, I remember the Mayoral votes in England (another daft thing I'm glad we don't have) and Hangus the Monkey was voted Mayor of Hartlepool please log in to view this image and who can forget the big toe that stood against Mellor? So, did any of you vote (I probably wouldn't have)? But, the more important thing I'm looking for is somewhere where a giant cannabis leaf called "Smokey McDoobie" or something stood for PCC or a guy called L. Egalisrape standing or something. Anything?
This guy in Durham has the right idea. please log in to view this image Some more spoilt ballot papers here. http://pccspoil.tumblr.com/
1. Exactly, do not politicise the police. 2. Have a "no mandate" threshold if less than 25% turn out. 3. Do we not have anything better to do with our money than spend it on this farce? I read that the Hampshire PCC will get £85,000 - enough to employ four or five people in some places I would suggest. 4. The next time the Tories say that they're not in favour of big Government, remind them that just about every policy they've introduced has affected us more than just about any government in recent times.
Damian Green has stated that the low turnout doesn't matter and asked "do these people not want democracy?". Curiously, the slimey kunt has exactly the opposite view when it comes to union voting. Turnout in Merseyside was less than 13%. Given that the Tories have a history of insisting on minimum turnouts for things they disagree with (Scottish devolution in the 70s, union rights), it's pretty brass of them to downplay the turnout in this. It happens in America and they end up with absolute crackpots running their State Police Departments after reactionary incidents. It'll happen here. Same way the BNP get counsellors in to places when people feel they're being failed by the major parties, one incident of an Asian getting off with something in Rochdale, Oldham or somewhere like that and you'll end up with a BNP Police Commissioner
Exactly true Mr Diccus (NB how is your wife Incontinentia?) I'd completely forgot to mention how 20% is good enough for their new PCCs, but can you imagine how they would react if such a turnout resulted in strike action against their policies! Edit: and also forgot to mention how Londoners didn't get to vote, because it turns out that the Mayor of London is the PCC for London. So I don't understand how "democracy" doesn't apply equally across the nation. Again, Boris is a political appointment and shouldn't be allowed to appoint/fire the Commissioner IMHO.
